My Aim with Life Game Design is to Redefine what Gamification should have been - A catalyst and a movement to help Gamers become the most successful people in their respective fields by using their love for gaming as their greatest advantage in life. Unfortunately old school Gamification which I call "cringification" failed us as a generation of gamers by focusing on how to force life to be like a game, instead of trying to design life like a game. Cringification looks like building a rewards system like giving yourself a bowl of ice cream for going on a 10 minute run. To track progress in Life Game Design I've built an achievements system based on OctaCore - the 8 core areas we need to understand organize and optimize to build a fulfilling life. Think of OctaCore like an attribute system from a game like fallout, which let's you understand what stats you need to focus on to get the "playstyle" you want Every Project completed in LGD becomes an achievement. Just by playing the game of organizing your life using a combination of the Mini Games and the OctaCore system - you build an undeniable stack of proof of your achievements in all areas of life which intuitively tells you your strengths and weaknesses. I've been using the Life Game Design system for several months and have gotten to experience the monumental shift in clarity and satisfaction in life that come along with having a Productivity System that actually works. I can honestly say that it is one of the most intuitive Productivity Systems that I've come across + It Looks Great! It harnesses the power of GTD, PARA, and Atomic Habits but somehow simplifies them to a point where managing your life is not only easy but kind of fun. I've been a full-fledged gamer for most of my life, and so the idea of designing your life to function the same way as the games that I've dedicated the vast majority of my time and energy into is genius! It's been such a great way to take the strengths that I've acquired through gaming and channel them into creating the successful life that I want (which is not spending countless hours grinding away at video games). Super grateful for Michael's dedication to the concept of Life Game Design and appreciate the thought, time, and effort that he's put into making this such an awesome product. He's continued to improve the mechanics with each Notion update, and Notion's functionality has finally caught up to Michael's vision for the app. I 100% support the timing of this launch.
