👋 Hi Product Hunters, Six years ago we launched Findie on Product Hunt, a short-form video discovery website (hunted by @rrhoover). We were discovered on Product Hunt by @pmchx, ended up white-labeling for our first big customer (L’Oreal) who tasked us with automatically editing and resizing 130,000 (!!) horizontal beauty videos to optimize them for mobile screens and after a successful campaign, knew we had the foundation of an exciting new technology. Fast forward 3 years, and we’re thrilled to be back on Product Hunt to launch Kamua: a browser-based automatic video editing tool that helps creators optimize video across all major video platforms, from YouTube to TikTok to Instagram (and of course, more!). Product Hunt GIF embed While Kamua is a great tool for editing videos one-at-a-time, our secret power is Kamua’s Automation AI that intelligently re-sizes and crops video based on the most interesting or relevant parts of the video AND automatically adds closed captions that adapt to whatever aspect ratio you need. Product Hunt GIF embed One reason why this is important: in order to address the widest audiences, video content needs to offer accessible closed captioning and not only does Kamua do this, but it also gives you control over the size, positioning, and readability of captions. We've had great feedback from people who suffer from hearing loss — and @sharonfeder, (our newest advisor!), will share more below. Real examples of Kamua in the wild Offbeat Media Group: https://www.instagram.com/reel/C... Roam Media https://www.instagram.com/roam/?... Shelly Palmer https://www.tiktok.com/@shellypa... AfroLandTV https://www.instagram.com/afrola... Natalie’s Outlet https://www.instagram.com/reel/C... How is Kamua different? Browser & cloud based so you can work from anywhere Work up to 90% faster (we have a customer who went from a 16 hours workflow to 15 mins) No video editing experience required Automated captions in 60 languages that you can easily edit AI automation of “Hard and Boring Tasks“ 👈🏻 🔑 Let me just dig in here for a moment. What are “Hard and Boring Tasks”? Think about all of the things that prevent you from making your videos great and/or better for various social networks, like TikTok, Snapchat, Instagram Reels, Stories and IGTV, YouTube Shorts, Facebook, Pinterest Stories, LinkedIn Stories, Triller, Twitter (see why this is a challenge?) To celebrate our return to Product Hunt, we’re offering a special discount just for you ➡️ use code ‘KITTY’ for $20 off our $25 tier! One last thing - we were supposed to launch last week but some kind of glitch happened and we only ended up being listed for a short while in the afternoon. That's why some comments are from last week. I’ll be around all day — supported by my team (@eek @jimh @arthur_sempebwa) and would love to hear what you think — or if you have any complex video tasks that you’ve been unable to tackle recently! -Paul

@rrhoover @pmchx @sharonfeder @shellypalmer5 @eek @jimh @arthur_sempebwa @prcary Wow this would really be useful for people who are repurposing their videos for different social media platforms! congrats on the launch.
Kyle Kaplanis
@rrhoover @pmchx @sharonfeder @shellypalmer5 @eek @jimh @arthur_sempebwa @prcary Honestly Kamua is such a great source for taking awesome motion youtube videos and repurposing for TikTok!

Hi Product Hunters! I'm Radu, the CTO & Co-Founder of Kamua, wanted to add a few more things to what @prcary said. Behind the UI tools of Kamua is a fully-automated workflow that we started building back when we were auto-generating trailers for several customers like Red Bull, L’Oréal and Nissan. You can still see the origins of this trailer automation on findie.me, after which we added the ability to AutoCrop, to generate different Aspect Ratios as well. AI is not perfect - and not capable of human nuance and context. So we built a UI to allow people to tweak things to their taste and fix outright mistakes made by the AI. Over time, the AI will help suggest edits based on a combination of what the editor chose to do and how videos perform on various social platforms. That’s the power of data and technology lowering barriers to creativity. We are an AI-first company, more than we are a "tools'' one. So, when you see our UI, please be kind :) We have plans to add more and more AI capabilities (from upscaling content, removing objects from videos with inpaint, realistically place objects and change appearances, video repair, colorization and transferring styles), we're big fans of Generative Adversarial Networks and we're here to show the world that AI can be your friend. So if you want to talk tech, add a reply below. Until then, I'll leave you here with a short test we've done a while ago about inpainting. Video InPainting

@tinedavid @prcary How many months will it be $20 off?

This is pretty cool! Interesting use case of Saliency detection.
Radu-Sebastian Amarie (Eek)
@cbsudu Glad you like it! It's actually more than just Saliency, there are 4 machine learning models that work together.
Sudharshan
@eek Nice that's an interesting pipeline! Going to copy it ;) Jk lol. One question that I ask every ML startup is, where do you host your models? And how do you optimize for costs? I'm probably going to launch something soon and I'm concerned about GPU server costs and paying 200 USD/mo just for one server before I get any significant traction.
Radu-Sebastian Amarie (Eek)
@cbsudu haha :D Yeah, costs are always problematic. The cheapest hosting service I knew that offered a GPU server was Hetzner (offering a 1080 with $100 / month in EU), unfortunately they no longer offer that (because of crypto and miners). I guess VPS with GPUs might be a bit too expensive for you at the moment (they start from $450 in the Cloud), although you could go and apply for some startup credits (Google Cloud / AWS / Azure / IBM / Oracle) they all have some programs for startups that offer one year (or two) worth of credits, anywhere from $2.5k to $100k. Other solutions would be things like AWS Sagemaker (https://aws.amazon.com/sagemaker/) that use elastic inference services, with which you can easily scale up with (it starts from $86 / month I think, and it depends on how much processing power and VRAM you need) - https://aws.amazon.com/machine-l... other cloud might have similar things as well, see what bests suits you :D What kind of model are you trying to do? If it's something more generic like predictions or object detection / labeling / etc you might be better to start with a cloud API and build your MVP on that until you get traction.
Sudharshan
@eek Hetzner looks interesting, unfortunate that they stopped it. Applying for credits is actually a good idea, completely forgot about that. (I might have some lying around too lol). I'll have a look at SageMaker, Elastic GPUs would be great. Can save me so much money from having a fixed instance. My project will involve some type of Segmentation (background removal), super resolution and maybe object detection if needed. Cloud APIs won't have these unfortunately since I'll be customizing and creating a pipeline. Where do you guys host your models btw? :)
Radu-Sebastian Amarie (Eek)
@cbsudu we're currently multi-cloud: Google Cloud & AWS
Sharon Feder
My mother has been hearing impaired her whole life, and I’ve watched how painful it is for her not to be able to consume video. She recently shared an incredible video of my five-year-old daughter with me, and using Kamua, I showed her how to quickly add and tweak captions within a matter of minutes. She was floored. I want to get Kamua into the hands of more brands and creators so that they, too, can make their content more accessible. It’s easy to use and requires no formal editing background!
Jacob Shwirtz
@prcary @adamhirsch @sharonfeder So excited you're part of the team!
Paul Robert Cary
@adamhirsch @sharonfeder @shwirtz We are delighted to have you and Sharon on board! I promise the parties will be fun, too, when that's a thing again. :)
Sharon Feder
@shwirtz thank you!

@prcary @adamhirsch @shwirtz @sharonfeder So excited for all of you!!!

Thank you x100 for creating something so helpful. I am no video editing wiz, so this right here is something I’ve needed in my life for a long time.

When you combine creativity with technology effectively. Well done.
Paul Robert Cary
@juliusdesign Thank you (e posso dire grazie anche!)! Your title says it all! Can you share a little bit about the kinds of video challenges you encounter in your work?
Giuliano Ambrosio
@prcary hi! Yes, these are the most common video challenges: 1. Resize video vertically intelligently. 2. Crop the video to specific size 3. Add subtitles or keywords that are mentioned in the video creatively. Could the AI interpret the text semantically and offer you the option to highlight certain words in the video? 4. Add objects / stickers anchored to people.
