I've never been to burning man and don't really get the hype around it, but would love to learn - anyone here wanna explain why it's awesome or share an experience? :)

@eriktorenberg The Wikipedia entry followed by a quick Google search does a pretty good job of explaining it's values and appeals and the challenges it's faced recently. There is too much there to cover here. The TL;DR would read something like this... Counter culture event in the desert focused on radical self expression, decommodification, and inclusion. Basically, everyone is welcome, lots of crazy art, and you don't use money you trade or gift things. Many people find it to be somewhat a spiritual mecca for self and societal reflection. And of course people party. Now it's mainstream and lots of people go only to party and not for the values it originally represented. That's caused some tension, and the board members all seem to hate each other and fight all the time.
