Hi Hunters! 🖐 My name is Tom and I'm the maker of "How Much To Rank". "How Much To Rank" is a free tool that lets you calculate how much you have to spend in SEO to rank on the first page of Google (i.e. top 10) for any search term. It combines a lot of SEO metrics you would usually have to check individually, e.g. search volume, backlinks and the contents of top rankings, Google Ads CPC and competition, etc. Simply enter the search term you want to rank for, choose a search engine and (optionally) a city for localization. The result is an estimated budget you will need for a top 10 ranking as well as a list of recommendations for how to get there. Just give it a try and let me know what you think! Hi Tom. Just tested your tool. The idea is actually good. But as a SEO myself I tested quite some terms for past projects and I couldn't agree to a single one of them. For example: Dentist + (bigger) City for ~700$. Also real estate Agent + (bigger) City ~600$. This is not even close to a budget it really takes to get there (imho). If you can reach any of the keywords for the tool calculated budget to get there I will hire you instantly! I hope no customer ever gets to see the tool in the current state because they would think to get to the top 10 is really cheap. Which is very confusing and bad for business. I hope this honest feedback helps improving your tool. Cheers.

@saschaweber Hi Sascha! Thanks for your comprehensive feedback! Yeah, the terms combined with cities cuts too much of the costs.. if you check "dentist" with localization instead of using it in the search terms, the value should come closer.

@digitransformer Hey Dieter! Thanks for your feedback. The purpose is to get an estimate, how much SEO effort you have to put in, to rank for a certain search term on Google. The cost are composed by considering the current Top10 Google search results (their content, page type and backlinks) and the popularity of the term itself (searches per month, cost per click on ads, etc.). @tomgareis1 What does SEM spend have to do with seo effort. The SEO expenses are not assessable without detailed information about a page and its ACTUAL ranking and many other factors. There are actually only the following cost factors that are tangible - Optimization state of the pages that play in front - Backlink requirements and costs Everything else, like OnPage optimization, content creation etc can hardly be expressed in numbers without SEO analysis.

@digitransformer SEA/ad spend does not affect SEO directly, but correlates with competition in organic rankings. So this is an indicator how competitive this search term is and how much effort you have to put in. And by the way, its just a small multiplier in the calculation of the costs. In fact, we crawl every page in the Top10 and do a SEO analysis. But we will have to dig deeper here for sure, not only consider text length and backlinks, but other on page checks too. There will be definitely an update with more checks and more recommendations soon.
