The home buying process is tedious and difficult to understand. Homy makes it easy to follow with relevant information, vendor/home comparison, cost prediction and an AI chat which knows where you are at in the journey when giving you advice.

Hello Product Hunt Community 👋🙂 My name is Deon and I love building cool stuff to help people! I recently bought my first home a few months ago and was surprised with how antiquated the process felt and how the real estate industry thrived on people not fully understanding it. Many people dream of owning a home but this is becoming harder than ever to attain with home prices and interest rates at all-time highs. There are also powerful groups such as the National Association of Realtors trying to maintain the status quo at the cost of home owners (They just settled a major lawsuit on March 15 regarding inflated buyer agent commissions) and mortgage lenders who take advantage of people for not understanding high and/or hidden fees. I felt compelled to build something to help. This is how Homy was born, it is a mobile app which aims to empower home buyers with the information and tools they need during every phase of their home buying journey. 🏠♥️ Key Features: 🗺️ Important info for each phase of the process 🗺️ Local Vendors with ratings 🗺️ Expected Cost transparency 🏡 Home rating system 💰 Mortgage lender comparison 📝 Document organization ✨ AI assistant with document analysis 🥚 Perhaps an easter egg I would love to get some feedback on what could be improved 😊 P.S. This is published on the Apple App Store but Google now requires 20 testers to publish to Google Play so if anyone has an Android phone and would be willing to test it out please send me an email at dpills@protonmail.com and I will grant you access.

@vit_aver The best way to see what I mean is to go give it a try 😉 but for example this information is in the Pre-Approval phase with hyperlinks to articles expanding on the information and a way to track the lenders who you have a mortgage pre-approval from. A mortgage Pre-Approval is a written verification that you qualify for a mortgage based on your credit score, employment, income and tax information. You will still need a final approval after your offer on a home has been accepted. Most home sellers will require this prior to allowing home tours and offers so they know you are a serious buyer who can afford their home. Note: A Pre-Qualification is different than a Pre-Approval. It is just an estimate of what you could qualify for based on limited and unverified information.

Deon, congratulations on launching! I've been going through the process and one such app would have made it easier. The 'AHA' moment was when I learned how to look for hidden issues of the property. That made negotiation simpler and turned the balance a bit. Think about it ... if you can integrate such tips and if it would benefit others as well. Best of luck!

@andreiciulinaru Thanks! and I agree, I did not come across an app like this myself when going through the process so figured I should build it. Yep agreed, I found while touring homes I would get them mixed up and not always remember which things to check. That is why I included information on a lot of the important items to check for a home in the Home details page with the Home Tour Ratings, it reminds you what to check and gives a simple smiley rating system to compare different homes and make it quick and easy to track if you are on a home tour. 🙂

Hi Deon, congratulations on the launch of Homy! I would like to understand, how does Homy ensure the accuracy and reliability of the cost predictions it provides to users, especially considering the dynamic nature of real estate markets and potential fluctuations in fees?
Deon Pillsbury
@af1que1 Thanks! I found while going through the home buying process myself I was always researching what the average prices of the various services such as realtor, attorney, title, appraisal, etc. should be and it seems many other people are not always familiar with this. So the cost transparency features are pretty simple at the moment, it just shows the US averages for the various services or if it is a percentage based average it calculates the cost based on your affordable price or offer price on a home. I just wanted to give people a good idea of what they should be expecting to pay at each phase and if it is a closing cost where they will need to have the cash available up front.

I'm imagining all the huge things you could integrate with a product like this. Zillow, Rocket Mortgage. I'm so glad you bootstrapped this. I really wish you luck.
Deon Pillsbury
@aaykith Thanks! I agree, I think this industry is in need of a more comprehensive product which is currently being handled by a sparse set of high cost human and digital services.

Anything you can capitalize on since the law around commissions are going to change?
Deon Pillsbury
@joseph_ahlo As of Friday the NAR has settled their commission lawsuit and will require Home Buyers to cover or negotiate the payment with home buying realtors instead of the seller allocating the buyer commission out of the purchase price. I think there will be a major shift in the number of home buyers who prefer a self-service model vs needing to pay a large fee up-front or as a closing cost to a realtor. Homy is perfectly positioned to serve this upcoming evolution of the real estate industry.
