Over the past year I built Hivespent, a web and mobile app to handle business expense reports for small and medium businesses.
It started with my brother. He runs a small business and was spending hours every month chasing his team for receipts, checking spreadsheets, and manually validating expenses. As a developer, he asked me if I could build something to fix this problem. That’s how Hivespent started.
Most existing tools are powerful but also expensive and overkill for many SMBs. Expense reporting often ends up being just one feature inside a very large product that also handles travel, cards, reimbursements, invoices, analytics, and more.
Hivespent does one thing only: handle business expenses as fast and simply as possible.
A few concrete details:
- Creating an expense takes around 11 seconds from start to finish
- Mobile-first (iOS/Android), because the fastest way to capture receipts is on a phone
- OCR accuracy tested at 98.7% across 100+ receipts with varied photo quality
It’s at v1.0 and just launched so there are no real users yet. The main goal here is feedback, especially on:
- Whether focusing on simplicity instead of an all-in-one approach makes sense
- If you run an SMB, what would you expect from a tool like this?
- Anything that feels unnecessary, missing, or over-engineered
