Thanks for hunting us @mager!
Hi Product Hunters!
We all know that drinking water is one of the best things we can do for our health and cognition. But with daily distractions, millions of us simply forget.
That's why we built HidrateMe, a connected water bottle that makes sure that you're hydrated all day long.
The sensor stick inside our bottle automatically tracks your water intake and syncs that over to our app, which is available both for iOS and Android. And here's the best part - the bottle glows if you haven't had enough water for a while!
The Hidrate app calculates your daily amount based on your gender, age, weight, and height. Our app also syncs to your favorite wearables to adjust your water goal to your activity level. Lastly, it considers your location to adjust your daily amount based on the temperature, humidity, and elevation of your surrounding.
Please let us know what you think! We're very excited to hear your thoughts and questions! :)
@jannis Yes! We already finalized our tech & design, and we're putting in our first production order in July! You can learn more about our production timeline on our Kickstarter page: kickstarter.com/projects/582920317/hidrateme-smart-water-bottle
@nadyanguyen Nice! I'm assuming this is targeted at caretakers of people with disabilities (dementia, etc.) to monitor their water intake? It would be great if the data could go from grandma's bottle to their childrens' phones through the internet, so they can give them a call and remind them to drink their water. Is this possible, or is it cable/bluetooth only?
@jannis Thanks for the question, Jannis! Right now, our bottle connects to your phone via BLE, so it can't work for that use case yet. But if grandma had a smart device in her home like an iPhone or an iPad it could sync the data to her children from there. That's not a function we can promise at launch right now, but its on our list of continual new features to develop once the product is out :).
Let us know if you have ideas/suggestions to solve this problem!

@nadyanguyen@mager I see you take orders now... but does this mean you ship ASAP? What's the ETA on shipping for current orders?

Will be interesting to follow this emerging vertical. This reminds me of a friend's product, LifeFuels: https://www.lifefuels.co/. I'm more and more intrigued by quantified-self insights and management tools, especially after donning an UP3 band a few weeks back. Automation and passive value-add is important to me, though. Whoever can maximize value while minimizing time and attention.
@urbnist Thanks, Lucas! Wow, you put it very eloquently here. You're spot on - we are working on delivering more quantified-self insights by connecting hydration to other aspects of health, such as performance, weight loss, and more. Stay tuned! :)
Out of curiosity - what kind of insights and correlation/connection would you like to get from your fitness/health trackers?

@nadyanguyen More specific hydration prompts might be useful. For example, anyone can tell me to drink 8 glasses a day or some such rule of thumb, but if Hidrate intakes my individualized activity level via things like my Up band or Run Keeper, then maybe it can provide more hand-tailored suggestions relative to that activity level.
I struggle with dehyrdration whenever I travel to very remote places. When the water isn't cold (without refrigeration), it's very hard to remember to drink, and to be sure you're drinking enough.
This is also fantastic for golfers and athletes.
I don't know if this has enough value for most people to justify purchasing it, but I can certainly see some niches where this would be awesome. You're already doing quite nicely. Well done, @Nadyanguyen.
Could you ever realistically get the price down to $25? I feel like there would be more opportunity at that price point.
@msitver I might be an outlier but the price seemed pretty low to me. I'd expect to spend about the same amount for a decent water bottle—in fact the last good one I bought was around $30 and I have used it for ~5 years. Somehow I don't lose water bottles I guess.
@msitver You hit the nail on the head there! It's surprising to know how many of us don't drink enough, despite the common knowledge of how important hydration is.
As far as the price go, we can't drop the price due to our manufacturing/assembling/handling cost, unfortunately. But thank you for the suggestion! :)
@nadyanguyen@msitver I wasn't saying to drop it now. As a new product, your introductory price is more than reasonable. I was just saying in a year or two, with the economies of scale, and decreasing component cost.
@msitver Sorry I didn't answer your question! Our cost will drop a little bit with scale, but considering our current unit cost & future retail margins, we probably won't be able to get close to $25, at least with the BOM we have right now. However, if you have any idea on alternative product line or other ways to achieve a lower cost, let us know!
Can't tell you how often I've thought about doing something like this! So great seeing it happen and executed so well. Keep up the great work & stay motivated!
Hello Product Hunters, meet Hidrate - they made an awesome connected water bottle that makes sure that you're hydrated all day long.

I got to spend some time with the company at our Sprint Mobile Heath Accelerator, powered by Techstars (full diclosure, I'm part of the Techstars investment team) and the product is real and the team is moving fast. I'm a backer of their Kickstarter campaign and am looking forward to it shipping.
My use case - I have plenty of water bottles, but really have no idea if I'm drinking enough every day (most days probably not) and my trainer wants me drinking almost a gallon a day when I'm on my hardcore paleo diet / lifting regimen (I do 10 days on, 20 days more lax) to help flush the protein waste (hard on the liver). This will fit perfectly into my quantified training flow. I use LoseIt! to track food intake, Withings scale to track body comp and now will have Hidrate for water intake.
@arinewman Thanks, Ari! We are so excited to get the bottle to you! I am curious - do you you use any app to aggregate everything that you track or do you use each app individually?
