Hello everyone, today we are happy to introduce you to our app ‘Helm: Independence’! What is Helm?💚 Helm is an app that helps you discover your inner-self and integrate it, leading you to a pathway of self-actualization. We define this as independence, as in the ability to become your true self—an entity undivided and indivisible—regardless of outer influence. And through this app, we aim to accomplish the goal of cultivating its mental and spiritual element for all, or as we like to call it, cognitive force. Why did we build Helm?🤨 Being true to ourselves, is not as easy as it sounds. This is not only a spiritual problem, but also a psychological and physical one. In other words, being inauthentic takes its toll on both mental and physical health. Hans Selye, who is known as the 'father of stress research' noted that “Most of our tensions and frustrations stem from the compulsive needs to act the role of someone we are not”. However, we often cannot help but compare ourselves to others, seek external validation within social norms. Aggravated by social media, we are all at risk of ending up in a place where we don’t belong, in a danger of becoming a shell of ourselves, alienation and a sense of unworthiness. What is our approach?🔥 Independence does not mean isolation, and to be ourself does not mean letting ourselves go. However, since many of us do not know what our authentic self is, we often translate authenticity as not leaving our comfort zone, using the idea as an excuse to stagnate and be mindless. This being the case, we employed role-models—from the greatest minds of history—for cultivating the sense of what independence is. Like Galileo Galilei, like Florence Nightingale, like Nelson Mandela; by living like these icons of independence, we can get a sense of who we are, what’s important to us and what your values are. These figures have tried, experimented, trial-and-errored different versions of self, and successfully consolidated their style. By following through the daily routines inspired by them, we can better express our true self, embrace our uniqueness, and honor our individuality. In your journey of Helm, we want you to feel warm and accompanied, knowing that you have a place to rest your soul. That is why we created Hearthside, a community that can potentially inspire and encourage each other along their own pursuit. Here you can comfortably write down what you really think by quoting anything that gave you inspiration or led you to further growth; we hope everyone speaks in their own unique lively voice, hence we call this activity ‘Viva Voce’. In between your days work, you can also just open up Viva Voce and have a healthy read about others’ journey, either to be simply inspired or actually delve into a different outlook of life. A Group Profile🫂 One of the most important factors in mental health is our relationship with our close ones. Robert Waldinger, who directs the Harvard Study of Adult Development pointed out that “Those who kept warm relationships got to live longer and happier, and the loners often died earlier,”. In regard to growing independence, this is ironically also the case. Since no one is free from the need of affection and care nor utterly self-sufficient, only when we regularly and deeply interact with our close ones we are able to truly stand alone. However, although we have a core in all of us that calls for a sense of belonging, as our interactions get more and more superficial many people are left with no real friend at all. This is why we opted for a group profile, or as we call it, ‘Bondfire’. In Bondfire, the focus is not just about you, but about everyone you care. You can share your Live Like journeys here, or fetch good Viva Voce for your friends. As the quality of relationship matters much more than the quantity of it, there is a 6-person limit to your profile :) We value your thoughts💭 As we want our project to be genuinely helpful as well as enjoyable, we are eager to hear your opinions and suggestions about Helm. Please share and comment any feedbacks and questions! You can also contact our email, hearthisnear@gmail.com. Download Helm today and start to live a life that you can call yours. We look forward to seeing you in Helm :) PS. To get a better glimpse of our team and what we stand for, check out our website www.hearthishere.com.
