Launched this week
You've been at your desk for six hours. Haven't had water since breakfast. Neck locked in one position, eyes dry from the screen. You didn't even notice until now. HealthyNotch lives quietly in your Mac's notch and nudges you before it gets that far: stand up, drink water, blink, stretch. No dock icon, no logging, no dashboards. One-time payment, lifetime access, no subscription.

the balance score + mood character detail is a smart way to make it stick without a dashboard. one thing I'm curious about - does it learn your actual work rhythm (holds off during an obvious deep-focus stretch, nudges harder when you've genuinely been still too long), or is it running on a fixed timer regardless of what you're doing? asking because the fixed-timer version risks becoming exactly the kind of interruption it's trying to save you from.
@galdayan currently, it's fixed scheduled nudges. But it's just v1. HealthyNotch has lifetime deal with gives you all future updates. No subscription, account needed
@madatbay fair enough, no subscription and no account is a real point in its favor either way. is the rhythm-learning version something you're actively scoping already, or more of a wait-and-see based on what v1 users actually ask for once it's out in the wild?
@galdayan it's mixed. I have some stuff already planned ahead, but I do not push for them to see actual user feedback. I try to minimize shipping useless features
@madatbay makes sense - shipping in the open with real users is basically free user research if you're set up to actually listen to it. good luck with the rest of the launch
one-time payment for this kind of app is the right call, subscription fatigue is real for something this small in scope. question though - a lot of devs run an external monitor most of the day with the laptop lid closed or off to the side, so there's no notch in view at all. does it fall back to a menu bar icon or something similar when there's no physical notch, or is the whole experience built around that specific UI space?
@omri_ben_shoham1it pops up nudges in all external displays in addition to notch. so nudges never missed
@madatbay Kudos. on the launch. Its a great idea but i am curious how does it know that I drank water or did a quick stretch?
@roopesh_donde Relies on user, user can ignore that nudge (maybe in meeting, etc) or mark it completed. But it's just v1, there are bunch of planned features
The no-logging angle is what sets this apart from every wellness app I've tried — most of them turn the break into a data-entry task. The Balance Score has me curious though: since there's no backend and no dashboard, does it store anything locally to carry your score across a day, or is it rebuilt fresh from in-session activity each time? Mainly wondering because I use two Macs and I'd want to know if the nudge cadence tracks across both or starts fresh on each one.
Speaking as someone who just spent two months heads down on a solo build, the thing I would watch with a fixed timer is dismissal fatigue. When I am deep in something a nudge at the wrong second does not get obeyed, it gets swatted, and after a few of those I stop registering them at all.
What actually worked for me was hanging the break off a natural boundary instead of a clock. Get up whenever a build or a test run kicks off, since you are already stalled for thirty seconds and do not resent it. Saw you say adaptive timing is on the roadmap, that is the one I would rush. The notch placement is smart though, it is the one spot I glance at without meaning to.
This is the kind of app I’d probably keep using because it doesn’t ask me to do anything. Most wellness apps lose me the moment they turn drinking water into admin. The notch is a smart place for it, and the little character sounds just annoying enough to work. What I’d really want to see is whether it actually fades into the background in a good way over time, or if it starts feeling like another thing I have to manage. If it can stay helpful without becoming noise, that’s the real win.
