Excited to make great nutrition accessible to more people! CDC: ”Approximately 88 million American adults — more than 1 in 3 — have prediabetes. Of those with prediabetes, more than 84% don’t know they have it. Prediabetes puts you at increased risk of developing type 2 diabetes, heart disease, and stroke” We just posted more details about how it works and why we built this: https://blog.gyrosco.pe/introduc... Previously this feature required a human coach, but now with XRAY we have automated the guidance with features like Academy and Labs. The actual analysis is still done by human nutritionists so the data is as accurate as possible, but then the metabolic coach can give very accurate (and actionable) insights for the meal powered by the data. It is $99 a month but we have a special launch discount available today for Product Hunt :)

Hi Anand, I’m interested to try this. As a new user of Gyroscope, the onboarding doesn’t make it clear what I need to sign up for to use X-Ray, and to get the discount you mentioned. Should I sign up for ‘Coach’? That says $199 per month, not $99 per month.

@blakesamic Awesome, excited to get you set up! Whether you should have a coach or not depends a lot on your goals, your personality, etc. We do recommend it for everyone who can afford one, there’s no substitute for having an expert human by your side helping you figure out the complexities of health. Even if you have equivalent experience, just the time savings and accountability of delegating that to someone else is valuable. But if you just want to use the food xray without coach, you should be able to get started from the link above ("GET IT") or go directly to https://gyrosco.pe/ai/xray/ to subscribe! Going to that page will automatically apply the discount, which will be taken down later today

Very excited for this evolution of Gyroscope. I've been using X-Ray to track my calories every day and it's been instrumental to losing weight. You literally just take photos of your food and Anand's magic does the work behind the scenes to quantify calories and nutritional content. Huge! 🚀

@maccaw Especially now with sugar being in EVERYTHING, Americans need more than ever a way to help them eat better. @aprilzero have you thought about reaching out to Kaiser? They would be a great partner as they're all about preventative healthcare.

big fan of Gyroscope and the continual development of Anand and his team of coaches and nutritionists!

@brett_nord1 Thanks Brett!

Seems like a cool service and I like the approach (experienced humans instead of error-prone AI) but have to wonder: would enough people pay $100/month for calorie tracking? 🤔
Anand Sharma
@anna_0x Thanks Anna! We do have quite a few people using and enjoying it already, but you’re right convincing more people they need it is important and challenging. About 88 million people (just in the US) are prediabetic and need this, so we have a lot of work to do there. We’ve written more about this in the announcement — https://blog.gyrosco.pe/introduc... — about why this is not just calorie counting. While building this, we discovered calories were just *one* of the 6 essential metrics that combine to your overall meal quality. So if only calories are being tracked or looked at, you’re missing 83% of the insights. If the main feature was calorie tracking then I would agree with you. Seeing a graph of your calories is maybe worth $5 if anything, it is not very useful even though many people think about it since it is the most famous variable. In reality, most people should be looking at how much protein they’re getting (~100g+ is the recommended daily average for most people (it goes up as you get older as well as being more active)), glucose spikes, micronutrient density, and more, at least as much as focusing on total calories. Probably a better way to think about what is a good price is how much people would pay for: living 10 years longer, losing 10-20 pounds, reversing their obesity or prediabetes, saving 3-4 hours a month, having more energy every day, etc. which are some of the many benefits that can come from improving your nutrition.
Jason Cutler
That’s all good, but it seems too expensive. Can’t you split it out into tiers and people could just pay for what they need or can afford?
Anand Sharma
@jasonology yep! you can browse the cheaper options on the site, this is a higher end version for people who want the full food tracking experience but you can get started for just a couple dollars a month
