GreptimeDB is an open-source Observability 2.0 database.
It stores metrics, logs, and traces as unified wide events in one columnar engine on object storage, replacing separate systems like Prometheus, Loki, and Elasticsearch.
It supports SQL, PromQL, OpenTelemetry, Jaeger, and Grafana natively. Written in Rust with compute-storage separation for painless scaling. Used in production for log management, metrics storage, trace analysis, and AI/LLM observability.
Hello Product Hunters!
We are a group of passionate Rust language lovers 👩🏻💻🧑🏻💻 who built an open-source (that's right! We are open and free on GitHub 🎉) time-series database called GreptimeDB from scratch. Our mission is to improve the scalability, efficiency, and analytical capabilities of Time series Database/TSDB existing in the market and allow you to efficiently process and analyze valuable time series data generated from either IoT sensors, microcontrollers, cryptocurrency mining machines or even transactional data from your company's daily operations, and store them at a very low cost so you will never worry about high IT infrastructure expenditures 😃.
Our core team members have more than a decade of experience finding solutions for ultra-large IT infrastructure monitoring scenarios. Before joining GreptimeDB, they had already successfully built a TSDB and proven to meet complex business needs. We just open-sourced GreptimeDB on Nov.15 and already got > 500 Stargazers in 2 days 🥳. Below are some of the key features GreptimeDB offers:
- A standalone binary that scales to highly-available distributed cluster, providing a transparent experience for cluster users
- Optimized columnar layout for handling time-series data; compacted, compressed, and stored on various storage backends
- Flexible index options, tackling high cardinality issues
- Distributed, parallel query execution, leveraging elastic computing resource
- Native SQL and Python scripting for advanced data analysis
- Widely adopted database protocols and APIs
- Extensible table engine architecture for extensive workloads
You can find us on GitHub and other social media platforms. Start trying out GreptimeDB and building it together with our developers!! 🤓💪👏
So honored to share that GreptimeDB had made it to the TOP on GitHub Trending since its open sourcing on Nov 15, for 3 days!
A big THANK YOU to GitHub and all the members of the community! We understand that the number of stars doesn't necessarily reflect the project's quality, but it shows broad attention gained among developers, and we take every feedback extremely seriously and are working hard to engage more contributors and users to our community, making GreptimeDB an excellent project for all the developers.
We will share our milestones on our blog soon. Subscribe to our newsletter on our website and stay tuned! If you are interested, find us on GitHub!
