There are a ton of companies now trying to help you sell things, often without too much in the way of differentiating features. Gone is interesting because they're trying the space from an angle that everyone knows: SMS. I think this speaks more broadly to of the trend to make text-only apps that involve language processing and conversation-like interaction patterns. Really keen to see how this evolves!

Hey all! I’m the Product Designer with Gone. We’re thrilled to announce GoneSMS as a corollary service to our iOS app (http://www.producthunt.com/tech/...). Through SMS, you’ll be welcome to have a conversation with my talented colleagues who will walk you through the entire process of selling the things you have lying around. With Gone, we’re building a solution to buyers remorse, clutter, and distraction while freeing up your funds for meaningful spending in the process. A conversational UX puts communication at the core of the service and ultimately helps us design a better experience. As you’ll find on the site, we’re still filling a wait list for the service. You can sign up on the site or by sending a text to our number at 415-980-4663. We're excited to have you on board. Oh, if you send a text saying PRODUCTHUNT, we’ll be sure to include a reward. :D Thanks! I'll answer any questions you have!

Love this simple focus and execution. Could be a winner.
@rstephens thanks! we agree — SMS is, both positively and negatively, very open ended and we hope to have just the right amount of focus and direction.
Awesome avenue to helping people sell stuff who love to text! Great idea!
@bryansarnold fortunately, we like to text too.
These selling concierge services have potential, but the problems I've seen in almost all of them is that they either take too high of a cut (20% is substantial if I'm selling something worth $250 for example), they lowball you with the value of the item, or both. It remains to be seen whether these issues are worth it for the convenience.
@ghobs91 you're absolutely right — this is a huge consideration for us, as it is for other selling services and marketplaces. Our partnerships and logistics are structured in a way that will allow us to reduce this commission as volume increases, at which point we'll be happy to lower the costs in exchange for higher frequency. In the meantime, we hope to strike a balance between our commission and the value of our services.
