Really excited to share GiemTori for iOS with the ProductHunt community! Just a little background on the project. The name GiemTori is a Surinamese saying for "Tell me a fun story" or "what's up." The idea behind the app is very simple. Say anything using up to 3 emojis. Based on our research and experimentation, 3 emojis is really the sweet spot to share short ideas and thoughts. Emojis have received a lot of attention in the past year and Oxford Dictionaries even named πŸ˜‚ "word" of the year! But up till now, emojis really have been supplemental to text. Although emoji is considered a language, it is lacking some serious linguistic features (e.g. grammar rules). So while this is a fun app to send short, fun, and clever messages to friends and family, it really tries to solve a bigger problem of making emoji a real, standalone language. I look forward to a vibrant discussion in the comments below and if you have any questions/feedback, please feel free to reach out! πŸ˜»πŸ’¬πŸ‘Œ Thank you @NikkiElizDemere for posting the app!
@ryankopinsky interesting concept here, Ryan. It's pretty clear by now that emoji's are an excellent tool to enhance conversations, but GiemTori is trying to take it one further by utilizing emoji's throughout the entire conversation itself. I do agree with the previous comment on this thread by @joshbarkin where he suggested using bot's to instigate conversations with new users. A little help (in the early stages) can go a long way to keeping users active ;) Best of luck!
@haidersyed Thanks! Initially I wasn't sure if a conversation was possible with just 3 emojis but the more I use it, I can honestly say that it's actually fun and effective. The fact that I can setup a lunch meeting with just 3 emojis still blows my mind haha! In regards to the onboarding, I'm already working on a solution where new users can get a taste of the fun. The current version doesn't do a good job of engaging new users in their "empty state." I really appreciate the feedback πŸ‘Œ
I've been playing around with GiemTori for a few weeks now, and it's been a fun, lightweight way to send small messages. Emoji is inherently limiting, but the more I've used it the more I find myself exploring exchanges that are super contextual and unexpectedly creative. Ryan has pushed a ton of updates and remained responsive to feedback, so I really look forward to seeing what's in store for future updates. Hopefully GiemTori makes emoji an easier and more robust chat tool!
I like the concept, but I think you need to have a bot for conversations by default. Looks like you can only use the product by inviting facebook friends, and people need to see immediate value from your product before they invite anyone.
@joshbarkin Great point. Something akin to slack bot?
@joshbarkin you're absolutely right. As part of the onboarding experience, a user should be able to get a feel for the app. It's def high on the priority list :)
Congrats Ryan, great work!
Love it :)
@nivo0o0 πŸŽ‰ let's get the whole PH team talking emoji 😻
