Deploy your own private scanner on ChatGPT Sites. Capture receipts hands-free with your phone, then use ChatGPT Work to parse receipts and invoices. Stress-tested with 800 receipts so far and continuously improved through real-world use.
How did Astra change the scope or ambition of what you built?

With GPT-6 Astra in Codex, I could build and iterate on a complete private receipt workflow while using it for a real volunteer digitisation job. The scope includes a hands-free phone capture station, desktop preview, preserved originals with checksums, recovery for interrupted uploads, and a separate Work/Codex workflow for OCR, document grouping, review and PDF export. Separating capture from processing lets me keep feeding receipts while the detailed work happens afterwards. I have stress-tested it with 800 receipts so far and continue improving it through real-world use. The public repository lets others deploy their own private ChatGPT Sites instance and use ChatGPT Work to process their receipts.

Hi Product Hunt! I built Galactic Receipt Scanner for a real volunteer job: digitising piles of paper receipts without tapping a shutter for every page.
Mount a phone above a dark desk mat, open the desktop preview, and feed receipts one by one. Red explains what needs attention, amber asks you to hold still, and green confirms the original has been saved.
It has been stress-tested with 800 receipts so far, and I’m continuously improving it based on real-world use. GPT-6 Astra has helped me build and iterate on the tool in Codex while I put it through that work.
The core design decision is to separate capture from processing. Original photos are preserved with checksums; OCR, document grouping, review and PDF export happen afterwards in the owner’s Work/Codex workflow. Uncertain readings stay open for review.
Deploy your own private instance on ChatGPT Sites, then use ChatGPT Work to parse the receipts and invoices. The repository contains the application code, while receipt images and data stay private. The product screenshots use synthetic receipts; the setup photo is from my previously shared build updates.
This is my entry for the GPT-6 Astra Challenge. Ask ChatGPT Work to deploy this project on ChatGPT Sites for you! Let me know if it gives you any trouble. And definitely share if it helped you deal with your mountain of receipts!
