Maker
Hey everyone,
After about a year of basically living, eating, and breathing plants, I am finally releasing Flora.
I hope that it encourages people to form better plant care habits and learn lots about the wonderful world of plants along the way.
What is Flora? ❓
Flora is an iOS App to help you organise your garden, learn more about the plants you care for, and develop better plant care habits.
Sort your plants into a virtual garden, keep important information at your fingertips by recording it in a journal, or set up reminders to help you stay on top of things.
Here are some of the key features ⭐
Gardens
Organise your plants in a virtual garden. Here you can record journal entries, schedule reminders, and track plant growth with estimated maturity times.
Planting Calendar
Grow plants when the time is right with planting calendars for most annual plants, and suitability indicators for perennials & houseplants (based on your locations climate).
Plant Library
Check what environment is best for your plant by using the plant library. The plant library includes 35 plants with details including climate, sunlight, watering, soil and more.
Plant Identification
Come across a plant you don't recognise? Identify over 12,000 different species with just a photo by using the plant identification feature.
Health Assessment
One of your plants not looking right? Perform a health assessment to quickly find the problem and any potential treatments.
Forecasts
Access in-app forecasts to stay current on the weather and any rain coming your way.
Articles
Learn more about caring for your plants by reading educational articles.
Why I made it? 🔥
I made Flora because I’m not satisfied with any of the current “plant care” apps. There are quite a few apps available that provide plant identification and some basic plant information, but for the most part it stops there.
Some apps provide watering schedules but in the real world this isn’t useful. Climates, humidity, and precipitation are by nature unpredictable. My hope is that Flora acts as a tool to help people remember to check on their plants and use the knowledge within Flora along with their own intuition, to see if a plant needs watering.
Flora basically aims to provide the tools and knowledge to make you a better gardener in your own right. This might mean setting up a reminder in Flora to check on your plants more often (because you forget). Or it might be using the plant library to see if that plant that you found at Bunnings will really survive the next few months sitting on your porch. It could even just be reading up on new skills using the Knowledge articles.
What’s next?
After a great beta testing period of almost a year (thankyou to all of you), my main priority is expanding the plant library. There are always more plants to be added or refined.
But of course there’s some awesome new features I have planned.
- Widgets
- Better iPad Support
- Siri Integrations
- Potential integration with smart plant monitors
- More articles & plants
This was by far the biggest project I have released and I’m looking forward to taking Flora even further.
Happy to answer any questions 😀
