I noticed something very new in my Facebook app this morning - Facebook Marketplace. There was a new "Marketplace" tab on the main lower tab bar in the Facebook Mobile app. As I opened the tab I was greeted with a message saying "Buy and sell things in your neighborhood." as well as "Your marketplace posts won't appear on your profile unless you choose to share them." Upon clicking "Browse marketplace" I was taken to another screen which seems to be photo tiles sorted in reverse chronological order of items posted to Facebook Marketplace in my neighborhood. I was taken back at the nearly identical experience to that of OfferUp, another local buy and sell app that has been gaining popularity. One item to note, was that it pulled in for sale items from groups that I belong to, which is a rather useful aggregation of stuff that I'd probably otherwise miss. I posted up a Samsung S6 for sale to see what the process was like. It was very quick and simple. I was able to upload images directly from my phone, add a description and set a price. It couldn't have been any simpler.
@jdbt I am Shocked and now really happy about it , we are developing something similar (currently in prototype stage).

Nice scoop @jdbt! The images in your tweet are 😮😮 Facebook is launching a marketplace:
@nivo0o0 Thanks! I'm surprised this isn't a bigger deal - seems like a huge new market for Facebook and going directly after some big names (Craigslist & OfferUp)
holy sh******* 😱
This is a huuge move by FB. Expect them to be the #1 local marketplace app by end of this year
We are developing a Real-Time on the map Marketplace since 2015 November. Facebook doing it now which shocked us , but Happy at the same time because it is validation of our idea. In our platform users can post items to real-time map , they can post wishlists so it can be discovered by nearby users , and chat right on the app. It is in early prototype stage. http://esobo.co images :
