ExtraExtra

Modern-day news is a shitty experience. Online articles feel like navigating a minefield of pop-ups, and podcasts don't cover the topics I want to hear anymore, or have derailed into pointless yap sessions filled with ad reads (Looking at you BetterHelp).

So as a passion project, I built ExtraExtra to make getting the news easier. It’s a mobile app that curates personalized news podcasts with your favorite topics and sources in 1 click. 0 friction to generating high-quality podcasts on demand. ExtraExtra handles searching for the best articles, instead of having to upload context yourself.

The app offers unique listening modes and durations, helping you customize podcasts to your needs, whether it's a 5-min briefing or a 20-min deep dive. ExtraExtra also comes with 6 fun podcaster personalities, so you can find the voice you like best! (I personally love Surfer Chad, radddd broooo!)

I’ve also used it to avoid echo chambers, swapping in a few sources I wouldn't typically hear from, adding new perspectives I would've never explored on my own.

Why is it called ExtraExtra?

It’s inspired by old-school newsboys shouting “Extra! Extra!” when breaking news hit the streets. Just like how those newsboys delivered the day’s biggest stories, I hope this app captures that same excitement and accessibility wherever you go. As someone who juggles subscription costs and constant notifications from differing sources, this app is a game changer. Love compiling all the sources I'm interested in and throwing in some dissenting ones to get a holistic view on what I'm interested in. Great work Brandon!
