Building ExpTracker was born out of the "financial chaos" of shared living. Existing apps were either too basic to handle complex group math or too expensive for what they offered. My friend Nisarg Patel and I wanted a tool that didn't just log numbers but actually understood our financial trajectory.
Our process evolved from traditional development to a high-level architectural partnership with AI. Instead of just generating code, we used Claude to tackle "Layer 3" engineering problems—like solving iOS-specific PWA caching quirks and implementing client-side AES-GCM encryption for privacy. The biggest shift was the momentum: a bug that used to stall us for hours became a 15-minute learning session, allowing us to focus on product-market fit rather than just syntax.
