DNS Directory

Free and Live-monitored Database of 77k+ Public DNS Servers

Most public DNS lists are static, stale text files. DNS Directory is a live-monitored database that tracks 77,000+ servers in real-time so you never waste time on dead connections. Filter servers by uptime, location, and security features (like ad-blocking, family safe, malware free), and access detailed historical data in one free, searchable dashboard.

Hi Product Hunt 👋 I’m Noah Pham, the project lead for DNS Directory. DNS Directory is a live database built to help you find reliable public DNS servers, not just list them. Most online DNS lists are just static, stale text files. The data is often months old, meaning you end up wasting time testing servers that went offline weeks ago. DNS Directory monitors 77k+ servers live so you know exactly what works. We originally needed this data for a proxy fingerprinting project at Ping Proxies. We were shocked to find that a live-monitored list didn't exist, so we built it ourselves during an internal Hackathon. With DNS Directory, you can: • Search a database of 77,000+ public servers • See live status (we test every ~10 minutes) • Filter by security features (Ad blocking, Malware protection, DNSSEC) • View detailed historical uptime and reliability info • Filter by technical specs like IPv6 support and Anycast • Submit your own servers if they aren't already listed We have no plans to monetize the site and it will stay free so it can be used as a public resource. Right now, we test nodes primarily from Amsterdam, but we are working on adding test nodes in Asia and the US for better global coverage. I’d love to hear what specific data points you look for when choosing a DNS server, and if there are specific regions you think we should prioritize for our next testing nodes. Thanks for checking out DNS Directory!
