We can learn a lot from successful entrepreneurs, but arguably we can learn even more from those that fail. Collapsed can be a great resource for anyone working at a startup to study things that lead previous companies to struggle and perhaps change their own journey.

@mubashariqbal I'm a huge fan of "startup graveyard" projects for the same reason. It's so important to celebrate failure, understanding and growth as a tool for improving our future.

@katesegrin I remember when F*ckedCompany (by @pud) first launched, loved to read the amazing tales of crazy things startups used to do, that lead a lot to fail!

@mubashariqbal one of my favorites is when they have insane burn rates-- you can see it coming a mile away, but you know they're having a blast on the way out 😂🙈

@katesegrin @mubashariqbal Thanks for the hunt, after the core product is implemented, I'm thinking of creating a Q&A service where users can ask for advice regarding their current startup. Similar to #adviceforstartup on SSG. I really love the way Quora have their startup advice section and would like to create something like that on Collapsed. What are your thoughts?

@aaronkazah @katesegrin @mubashariqbal Sounds great! def need more people to draw attention to the strong survivorship bias

@philipkuklis Could you touch a bit more on "strong survivorship bias" I'd like to know what you mean by that.

@philipkuklis @aaronkazah @katesegrin Very true! History is written by the victors after all!
Philip Kuklis@philipkuklis · Co-Founder, Hubble
@aaronkazah Sure, survivorship bias essentially means that we tend to focus more on people/startups with success stories than those who didn't "survive" the process; thus we miss out on lots of opportunities to learn more. That's why your project + the Q&A idea sounds like a welcome change! 👍

@philipkuklis I see what you mean. I'm just hoping I manage to execute things well enough to achieve the vision I have the for the product. Thanks for feedback, I appreciate it!

@philipkuklis @aaronkazah it also means we're susceptible to confusing any event, decision or strategy of a successful company as a the reason they were successful. "It worked for them!"

Hey there, I'm the creator of Collapsed. This is the first side project that I've created and I'm really happy with what I've come up with so far. I created Collapsed because there seemed to be a lot of buzz around a few startup succeeding whilst the majority of failed startups get ignored. I redesigned and developed this under a month after our Betalist launch and at some point found out that I couldn't implement all of the features that I wanted to include, so I ignored everything else and focused on improving the core component, tracking failed startups. In the future, I'll be implementing a feature that allows users to give a full on analysis on why that specific startup failed (currently users can only provide a brief autopsy), but also it would allow startup founders to fully delve into how everything transpired. Furthermore, users will have the ability to ask questions on startup advice, I see very much love how Quora did it, so having a community of founders looking to improve their startups and ultimately solve their problems is the vision I'll try to achieve. If you have any questions or would like to report any issues, just comment below and I'll get right on it.

@a4ayush Thanks Ayush! I tried to keep everything light and minimal. The initial version just left you a bit depressed reading stories about failed startups.

@aaronkazah really cool idea, glad to see it live! Great idea to focus on "tracking failed startups" since that is the core of this idea. Can't wait to see what you do next with it :)

@aaronkazah Great product. Would be great to see what they are currently doing and AMA sessions with founders (if they are open) on their collapsed pages. That helps the community!

@raviformative Thanks for the feedback, in terms of AMA... that would have to be implemented when the site is pretty solid all round. (core product + other features)
Ravi VadrevuHiring@raviformative · Founder of Kriya AI
@aaronkazah agree - you can use some plugins like disquss while you develop the core tech #lean. I have a failed startup story to share

@weirdowizard Thanks, I also saw your tweet about the summary/takeaways and think it's a brilliant idea. Perhaps we release quarterly summary with some overall stats on these failed startups.
Darshan Gajara@weirdowizard · Product Designer
@aaronkazah Sounds great! I shall subscribe to your newsletter. You could literally turn this to a user-generated directory like Crunchbase may be, by gamifying or some kind of incentive. Just an idea though.

Cool! Is there a way to add related articles? I've written several posts on Medium about our collapse. Happy to share

@fishmanalex Hey Alex, thanks for the comment dude. There isn't currently anyway to add related articles. I sacrificed features so I could launch my first product. Now that that's done, I'll now be free to make incremental improvements to the product. In terms of related articles, are your referring to links to your medium posts or... are you referring to a way to host in on Collapsed?
Alex Fishman@fishmanalex · Founder/CEO at Bugsee
@aaronkazah Congrats on the launch Aaron. Totally get it! Good luck! re: your question - yes, links. context, story, post mortem - these are super useful for the community.
