What do you think? …

Jason Wang
Hi there, I'm Jason, creator of the Capy Diet app. I’m excited to share this with the Product Hunt community! It’s been a journey building this app from the ground up, and I hope it can bring a little fun and support to everyone’s health journey. Let me know what you think—I’m here to answer any questions!
Nancy Le
so cute! I have a question: what technology does the app utilize to provide personalized food suggestions and track users' food items?
Jason Wang
@nancy_autonomous Hi Nancy! Thanks for the support! We use FatSecret as our source of nutrition database, and OpenAI's chat api to power the food suggestions (suggested by your capy coach!)

That's so cute! I wonder if there are limitations on the food product. I've tried several these kind of tools, but I couldn't find the product I'm eating..Anyways, congrats on the launch!

@linda_yanlin Thanks Yanlin! It's definitely a challenge to build a food database as robust as MyFitnessPal, but FatSecret does provide a good variety of common foods. We also offer AI Scanner for free, while that may not be 100% accurate, it should make the food tracking aspect a bit easier.

@jasonwang1024 AI scanner is brilliant!

This app is so cute! I'm curious, though—if I’m using it for breakfast, do I need to take photos of each ingredient, or can I just share a photo of my entire breakfast?

Love the idea of gamifying the calorie tracking experience @jasonwang1024 🤩 I downloaded it, and I loved it.✨ You've answered my top questions I've been pondering about for macro tracking apps (to a point of also thinking whether I can build my own) - What should I eat today? - How many calories are in this meal? - What should I be thinking about, because I just ate "x" (in my case, it recommended to me that I focus on eating a more nutrient dense food, like oats for breakfast instead of my electrolyte tablet) - I had a big breakfast, what can I have for lunch or dinner. Some features I would like to personally see if I had the power: - I would like to understand my weekly calorie intake. - Maybe some more information like whether foods are inflammatory, and can cause you being bloated. I would love to hear your thoughts on some questions: - I see my workout and steps are not recorded, is this feature of integrating with apple health still in progress? - What was your inspiration to build a macro tracker, considering there are so many in the market. - How long did it take you to build it? - How do you ensure accuracy in your AI Scanning? Having previously done something similar (admittedly less cool), I don't know if my results were ever really accurate, unless I add a nutritional database (like fatsecret) into the mix. Great product, I love it, I'll likely continue to use it. Nice! 🤩🎉

@jason25 Hey Jason, lots of good points and questions, I'll try to be brief and not turn this into an essay :) - Glad you like it, and great suggestions btw! Weekly intake analysis is available in premium but maybe we should make it more discoverable! Food inflammitory sounds helpful too. - Apple health integration is coming soon! - Hard to give an estimate on time but I'd say a year or two. - It is hard to ensure the accuracy of AI scanning, especially if you only rely on AI. A good practice like you mentioned, is to only use AI for identifying the food & portions, then fallback to food database searches. But even so, it can be off (e.g. it can't tell a cup of water from a cup of sprite)

@jason25 This is a hugely competitive market tho, there are so many new ones releasing I even gave up tracking lol. But yeah I actually built another calorie counter 5 years ago so this is a more polished version with a twist

@luanat Thanks for the support Luana!
Garvit Sapra
May be this cute dietitian can help to reduce the weight 🥹
Jason Wang
@garvit_sapra1 Totally! Capy Diet is built based on calorie deficit methods for weight management. Currently we are not emphasizing that aspect too much, it's good to start off with low-pressure food improvements!
