Capnot puts captions, annotations and pointer tools on top of any app on your Mac, so a screen demo still makes sense with the sound off. Type a subtitle, or a speech bubble that follows your cursor, or just talk and it captions you live. Draw arrows, boxes and numbered steps, blur anything secret, then spotlight or magnify the part that matters. Every tool is one hotkey away and works with any screen recorder or screen share. No editing afterwards, no subscription.

Hey Product Hunt, I'm Achan. I build Capnot alone under the name Tiny Ship Sailors.
Recording a demo was the quick part. Making it understandable was not: I'd finish a walkthrough, then spend another hour in a video editor adding captions, arrows and zooms so it made sense on mute. And on live calls I had no way to point at something except "see the button on the left… no, the other one".
So I built the overlay I wanted.
Capnot sits in your menu bar and puts everything on top of whatever app you're in:
Captions: a subtitle bar, a dialogue box with your name and face, or a bubble that follows your cursor. Or just talk, and live captions type for you.
Annotations: arrows, boxes, numbered steps, highlights, text, and a blur box for API keys and emails.
Pointers: cursor highlighter, laser pointer, spotlight and magnifier.
Every tool has its own hotkey, so you never leave the app you're demoing. Capnot doesn't record anything itself, it works with QuickTime, OBS, Loom, Zoom, Meet or whatever you already use.
It's $12.99 one-time with a 7-day free trial, no card needed. [CAPLAUNCH50 takes 50% off until 30 November 2026.] macOS 13+.
What do you record/share most: product demos, tutorials, or live calls? I'll be here all day replying.
p.s.
It's not a recording tools
blur on the fly is the one i'd use most, re-recording a demo because a customer email flashed on screen is the worst
when I share a single window in Meet or Zoom instead of the whole screen, does the overlay show up? I'd expect the arrows and the blur box to be missing there, since they sit on top of the app and not inside it.
Live captions that type while you talk during a Zoom or Meet share is the part I'd use most: on calls with non-native speakers, a subtitle bar fixes more misunderstandings than speaking slower ever does. I also like that it doesn't record anything itself and just sits on top of whatever you already use. Question: how do the live captions handle accents and mixed languages, say English with some Italian names in it? $12.99 once with a 7-day trial is an easy yes.
