Boltbar is a native macOS AI chat bar. Press ⌥ Space in any app to ask GPT or Claude, then get back to work. Agent mode hands Claude Code or Codex a project with Look/Ask/Edit/Full permissions. MIT, signed and notarized; brew or DMG. Optional €19 supporter license.

Hey Product Hunt 👋
I built Boltbar because I was tired of switching windows just to ask GPT or Claude something small.
It’s a tiny native macOS chat bar (Swift, not Electron). Press ⌥Space in any app → ask → get back to work. There’s also an agent mode that can hand a project folder to Claude Code or Codex with Look / Ask / Edit / Full permissions.
Free and open source (MIT).
Signed + notarized. Install it by grabbing the DMG from the site or with brew
Would love feedback on the agent permissions UX and anything that feels off on your Mac. What would make this a daily driver for you?
The native Swift bar plus the permission ladder is what caught my eye. In Edit mode, when Claude Code or Codex wants to run a command or touch a file outside the handed-over folder, does Boltbar stop it and surface that specific request, or does the permission only gate the initial handoff? I'm curious how you keep the quick Option-Space flow from turning into a blanket yes once an agent starts chaining steps.
a spotlight-style bar for asking GPT or Claude without switching apps is handy. does it keep the chat history between launches or start fresh each time?
it keeps it. every chat is saved locally in ~/Library/Application Support/Boltbar, attachments included, and you can search and resume it after a restart. ⌥ space opens a fresh one by default, but if a reply is still running it brings that chat back. nothing is synced to the cloud.
