Photograph a bird, identify the species with AI, earn XP, and add it to your collection. Collect 'em all, in real life! Every photo scores XP based on rarity × conservation status. Build your personal bird encyclopedia, unlock 50+ achievements, and level up from Fledgling to Master Birder. AI Identification is powered by the OpenAI API. You can add unlimited bird photos with manual species select, or use AI to identify birds for you (5 free IDs/day, unlimited IDs with Pro at $5/mo).

BirdDex is that game, but in real life! There are over 900 bird species in the US - in your backyard, at the park, on vacation - waiting to be found.
Here's how it works:
Take or upload a photo of a bird
Use AI to identify it's species (or type in the species yourself if you already know it)
Add the photo to your collection (BirdDex)
Every photo added earns XP based on the bird species' rarity
The "goals" of the game are to:
Complete your Regional BirdDex - There's a list of birds for each country and US state
Master every species - Each species has it's own level; add more photos to level it up
But mostly, my goal in creating the app was combining my love for collection games with the real world. It's helped me turn every walk into a new bird-spotting adventure, and I hope you enjoy it as well.
The app is completely free to use. You get 5 free AI identifications per day, and you can always add unlimited birds with manual species select. If you want unlimited AI IDs, it's $5/mo with BirdDex Pro.
