Hi Rachael, as someone from overseas who doesnβt really understand how to deal with my insurance here, this looks awesome. What should I be looking for in my insurance plan to make sure Iβd be covered when using the app?
@anton_jackson_smith That's a great question. The US healthcare system is baffling to everyone. If you come from a country with single payer healthcare β our system can be especially hard to make sense of. If you want to be able to see the providers of your choice I recommend looking for a PPO or POS type plan that covers non-emergency out-of-network care. If you are able to get a plan of this type through your employer you will generally get more money back from your insurance as the amount allowed for various types of care will typically be higher than if you purchase a plan yourself on the healthcare exchange. Let me know if you have any more questions!
Were there any challenges or lessons learned porting you app to Android? I've had to perform this migration before and I personally enjoyed using Reach Native since I'm a Node.js developer. Was this application developed with React or with Kotlin / Java?
Awesome app I love your mission to fix this broken f**ing healthcare system :^)
Hi @samuel_nathan, Thanks for your question. We explored using React Native but ultimately the challenges unifying various Android and iOS design paradigms meant we built our Android app from the ground up on it's own code base. This was mostly possible because we embrace API-first design and have been dogfooding our API with the iOS app and webapp for the last ~2 years. This let us develop quickly to an existing spec. I think the biggest misconception around React Native is that it allows for DRY components that can be unified across platforms, which is a nice idea but not very realistic.

Super excited to try this out! I'm getting a server error when I try to sign up for a new account, both on the website at https://getbetter.co/register and the iOS app - is there an alternate way to setup the account or is the server down temporarily? Thanks!
@evan_thomas76 I'm sorry for that trouble. Could you be so kind as to try again? We had a look through our logs and tested the registration flow, and we're not seeing any errors. If you'd like to troubleshoot together I'm john@getbetter.co and always happy to help!

@getbetter@john_stockdale Thanks so much for the quick response! I was using my work computer and my phone was connected to our wifi, so I switched to cell data and everything worked. I'm at a law firm so we have crazy security software, so if anyone else is having that problem, definitely try to disconnect from your company wifi network and try it that way!
Hi Product Hunt! I am Rachael, the co-founder and CEO of Better.
I am so excited to announce the launch of our Android app. Over the years, our team has worked tirelessly to build a system that ensures that every claim we receive gets the best possible outcome from your health insurance. After processing tens of millions of dollars worth of claims, we've seen it all. Whether you are seeking support because depression makes it too difficult to fight your insurance, you're too busy caring for a loved one with a serious illness, or you simply don't have the time to call your insurance during precious business hours β our team is always here to help.
I hope that our Android app enables more people to get support with their health insurance claims when they need it most. We file every claim for free and only charge a 10% fee if we are able to get you money back. If this ever represents a financial hardship for you, please reach out. We never want anyone forgoing care due to the difficulty of getting reimbursed.
Try out our Android app and by all means please let us know if you find any bugs.
I'm also here to answer any questions you might have about Better, health insurance, or how to navigate the healthcare system.
Thanks so much!

@rachaelbn I'm from Canada and I'm wondering if this could help me file my bills? I have a plan with Cigna and I know that they serve all of North America at least.
Also, it's aweosme to see a female CEO on this list! Salut!
@lindsey_m While we do file claims with Cigna and any other US payer our app only works in America. We do regularly get inquiries from Canada so we are hoping to expand our services in the future. Because the foundation of the coding system is set by international standards our technology is relevant across borders.

Great idea for a product. I never realized I could try to seek reimbursement for out-of-network claims. I always just assumed bills from doctors who donβt take insurance are a lost cause.

Considering the complete ease of use, it's nice to have a way to handle this both as a patient and a health care provider. Being able to take "the health insurance" conversation out of my practice and make the focus my patients well being is always ideal.
Pros:
It makes interacting with patients a breeze and ensures I am providing the best value.
Cons:
Still could use a little polish around the image intake experience and feedback around the current state of a claim.
