@benjiwheeler From the website (I know it doesn't give a specific date but hope this helps): "Bellus3D Face Camera and our Android SDK will be available in Q1, 2017 in limited quantity to developers and partners only. "

This should be integrated into every video game. BF1 (Battlefield 1) should be able to use your actual face model instead of the stock ones.

Just a follow-up, it wouldn't necessarily make sense for each person to own one of these since it's not something you need to do all the time. So, they could partner with gaming stores, like EB Games, and provide a really good scanner in-store that would create a model of your head that you can then use for various games. Even attached to your PlayStation Network profile so that any game could make use of it. This would reduce cost to the end user, give another reason for people to actually go into the gaming stores, ensure quality scans are done, etc. Brilliant stuff!

@joshuapinter I wanna bet on deep learning enabling good results based on your webcam alone, w/o the need for specialized hardware. Check out oben https://techcrunch.com/2016/11/0...

The Seene app (now defunct :-( ) on my iPhone used to do a really good job of making 3D headshots like this, without any extra hardware.
