Huge fan of these guys and the product. No one better than @galkalay75 to be steering @batterypop, with his background at Nickelodeon and focus on empowering kids

@howillia @galkalay75 @batterypop revenue model? Traffic? Engagement? What are you doing to positively affect these?

@stuartgoldfarb batteryPOP is free and ad supported. In addition to running kid-safe pre-roll and banner ads on batteryPOP.com, we distribute our videos to 3rd party platforms who need kids' content but don't have resources to curate it themselves, and we monetize the videos there as well. We also help brands generate original content, like a recent segment we produced for HarperCollins supporting their Zombie Chasers book series. Brands can either work with our internal creative team or with any of the almost 100 creators we have on the platform. As we scale up, we will put more emphasis on original content and COPPA compliant data. New IP allows us to pursue licensing and merchandise, and our strategy is to be a launching pad to TV networks like Nick and Cartoon Network, in which case we would share in revenues as co-producers. Current traffic is around 50,000 monthly unique visits to the site, and 500,000 distributed streams. We haven't done a big marketing push yet, but we're driving traffic through social, mom bloggers, link building and CPC (and today, through Product Hunt!) Our belief is that brand partnerships like HarperCollins and, as of last month, Major League Soccer, will be our best route to kids and parents as we move forward.

1) what challenges are you currently facing creating content for kids?

@stuartgoldfarb Hey Stuart, thanks so much for checking out batteryPOP. The main challenge in kids' content is finding amazing characters to drive the stories. Cool gadgets, a crazy world, lots of special effects…none of this matters unless the main character is relatable, unique and bursting with awesomeness. Whether it's wacky animated stepbrothers like Phineas & Ferb, or a truly engaging and relatable YouTube star like EvanTube, great kids' content starts with great kids' characters. Even then, awareness poses another challenge. We think the way to get kids' excited about new content is to introduce them to the characters and stories at an early stage in the creation process. Networks struggle to develop hits like Spongebob because they leave kid audiences out of the equation until way too late in the game. batteryPOP is set up to let kids' be the development executives. Kids decide what kind of content they want to see, which characters they like (and don't like), and which creators are worthy of their attention. This helps turns viewers into fans, and helps creators build loyal followings. We're harnessing the power of kids to find the NEXT Spongebob!
