Not a fan of the UI (looks like a mockup tbh...) but the idea sounds great.

@error23_ I was just thinking that I've never seen a good UI on beer centric apps. It's a shame no one cares about good design.

@barlyapp you have a lot of great and interesting content, but your UI is overpowering that content. The color scheme makes the text hard to read, the patterns are distracting, and the buttons/icons are dated (the nautical stars in particular, the font, the font sizes, and the redundant icons with text). The UX also feels foreign, so it seems you've written it with some sort of reactive foundation. This may be a prototype in order to gauge interest in the concept, so it was quicker to use whatever you used in order to launch on both platforms, but ultimately it detracts from a good UX, which might hurt your prospects. Building for mobile implies building for a specific operating system on a specific device: it may take some extra time, even for an MVP or a prototype, but this is ultimately the experience users have come to expect. That being said, as a craft beer fan, it's a cool concept. For some UI/UX inspiration, I would recommend taking a look at the app Old Sport. All the best and good luck!

@rueter Thanks for the feedback. We made some design decisions to give the app more "personality" like the font, colors, and graphic elements. The text under the icons was designed to help convey their functionality to new users. I will definitely check out Old Sport and reconsider some of these UI decisions. We did indeed build using a multi-platform language so we could quickly get the app available to many users.

@barlyapp Downloading now! I'm a big craft beer fan and use Untappd quite frequently - how does Barly compare?

@grizzwithak You tell me! We hear a lot of Untappd users aren't happy with the app. Our app is designed to be more stream-lined, with less social elements and more personality. Our Palate recommendation system is unique and helps users find beer they like instead of just average ratings. What do you think? What can we do better than Untappd?

@barlyapp The Palate is definitely a great feature! It would be nice if you could find a specific beer near you regardless of location instead of having to click each location to see what's on tap. Or a list of all the beers near you based on your palate... then you could click and see their location.

@barlyapp I like that you can rate beers and add them to a "My Beers" area (similar to bookmarking or favoriting). For anybody that goes to beer festivals / tastings, it isn't uncommon to taste dozens of different beers, but if you find something you like early on it's hard to remember which one it was exactly after tasting several beers following it. Have you guys ever partnered with any of these kinds of events? This could be an interesting way to keep track (in addition to getting a bunch of users that are for sure within your target demographic). Will the app recommend new beers based on those that I add to the "My Beers" area? Also kind of a tangent... I know there's a subscription service / box for nearly everything... but it would be pretty cool to see this paired with something like that so you could first figure out what you like, then second, have beers sent to you monthly that fall in line with your palate to refine even further (and potentially rate). Just food for thought. Nice work!

@arrev Thanks! We'd love to partner with events like beer fests. We attended the Great American Beer Fest last year spread word about the app. In the near future we plan on revamping our recommendation algorithm, which includes "learning" based on the beers you rate in My Beers. Stay tuned! We've reached out to beer subscription services but haven't found a partner yet. Would definitely be a cool feature - just need to find a partner.
