Hi Product Hunt, Emre from Menlo Research. Asimov 1 is an open-source humanoid robot that you can build a company on. It's the most customizable humanoid robot.
Asimov started with a Unitree G1. We bought one because we wanted to train our own policies on it. Then a small part broke during testing. The robot was closed source, so we couldn't fix it ourselves. We waited about 2 months for a replacement. Shared the full story here.
That's when we decided to build our own. A humanoid where the design is public, every part can be sourced, and the owner decides what it becomes. We started with the legs and released them in January. The full humanoid followed in April. We shared the build in public the whole way.
When we opened pre-orders, we hit the minimum order for production in 9 hours. Shipped the first batch to customers in more than 20 countries!
Asimov 1 is now the foundation of our own enterprise deployments. Founders buy it to learn robotics and to start their company on a robot they fully own. Researchers and developers use it to train and test their own work.
It's 1.2 m tall, has 25 powered joints and ships with a base walking policy. It comes as a kit you assemble in about a week at a few hours a day. It's $20,000, delivered to your door.

What would you build with it?
@emreckartal Go Asimov! Great work!
This is pretty appealing. Curious how easy it is to train it for new tasks.
@henry_habib thanks! It really depends on the task. I'd say Asimov 1 makes it a bit easier. I'm not technical, and I'm training a walking policy with AI agents. We deployed my first vibed policy on an Asimov 1 a few weeks ago and it walked on the first try - folks call it zero-shot sim-to-real! The effort the team has put into this is genuinely impressive. Love the open-source approach and the vision behind it. Excited to see where this goes. Congrats on the launch!
@bedri_keskin really appreciate it! Curious minds need a powerful humanoid that they can build, train and extend. It should be open source, with the right to repair. Still have a lot to do!
Waiting two months for one replacement part is a pretty clear reason to build differently. Public designs and parts people can source themselves make the ownership story much more concrete.
@oleksii_sekundant oh your comment flagged as Likely AI. Good chance for me to tell more about though!
We've always wanted to build brains for robots. We started with @Jan, then began building Asimov last year to solve problems we were running into ourselves with closed-source and custom humanoids. Along the way, we realized others needed the same thing!
and here we're, shipping it to 20+ countries!
