The Southern Reach Trilogy by Jeff VanderMeer is a dark, whimsical story that sucked me in immediately. It's like the twisted offspring of a strange dream and an adult fairy tale. Jeff's also experimenting with something fun: it's the first of a trilogy and the second and third volumes are released only a few months apart.

@eliotpeper Very fast turnaround on volumes 2 and 3!
@decision_ yes, the publisher planned it all out that way. I think all were written before the first book released.

@eliotpeper I like it, will capture interest (in your trilogy, do you think the anticipation in waiting for vol 2 and 3 helped or hurt or doesn't matter?)
@decision_ not sure, although all 3 of my books came out within a 16 month time frame.

@decision_@eliotpeper Definitely okay to read as they come out--the stories are more intertwined rather than direct sequels, if that makes sense.

Tremendous page-turners. Vol 1 is the most fun but the series becomes much more profound and meditative through the revelations in vol 3. Excited about the movie translations, and the rumors of more installments!
