Mac apps for devs and geeks

Directory of Mac apps, created specifically for devs and powerusers. Each app is manually reviewed to ensure high quality. Free apps don't pay. The list is rotated daily, so that each app would have a fair spot at the top.

Hello Product Hunt! 😊 I am very happy to show you apps4macs - my first launch here ever! The idea was born in my head when I switched from Linux to macOS two months ago. One of Linux's advantages is Gnome Extension, which is a β€œstore” of extensions for Gnome desktop environment. I love configuring and upgrading my system, so I quickly recognized that I was missing such a place on my Mac. There is an AppStore, but it is quite poor. Few small developers choose to pay the cost of publishing there: $99 per year, whether paid or not + 30% commission on sales... In addition, to find an app, users have to do some digging, as it is hidden among thousands of others, added by bigger players. In apps4macs I took a more user-friendly approach: πŸ’Έ Don't make money? Don't pay. Free app for $0, paid for a fixed monthly amount πŸ”„ The order on the list changes daily, so each app would have a fair spot at the top, at least once a month πŸ‘¨πŸ»β€πŸ’» No games or GarageBands - just what counts for real geeks Thanks for making it to the end, I'd appreciate any comments and feedback! ❀️

Okay, now this looks interesting. The rotating list feature is great. A few questions - - Can devs update their apps easily? - What kinda vetting process you have for new apps? - If an app gets popular, any plans for a featured section? Anyway, good luck for your launch! Sound like a cool alternative to the AppStore.

@danielharrison Thank you, glad to hear you like it! - Devs can update anything, beside the free/paid option. There's also a bigger description stored underneath each app - I just need to create a view for that. - I am simply evaluating whether the application is suitable for this site. Doing some mini research or even installing the app on my Mac and then asking myself: is it non-scam and valuable for powerusers? Almost all of the apps you see on the site right now, are used daily by myself. - Yeah, that's a good idea, I'll think about that!
