oneshotcam, an analog roll film camera app for iOS that brings back nostalgic disposable film camera features to our phones, has just launched for iPhone on App Store! The app works like this; You get a new film roll every day, with 9 shots each. Choose a film preset, and start capturing memories! With the daily shot limit, you will have a daily journal of photos that you actually want to revisit

The Problem
If you have a phone with camera nowadays, most probably you have this issue: you go to a day trip, you take nice photos, all great! On the way back, you try to find a good one to share, or just to see. But you are faced with 100 shots of the same pose. If you are patient, you filter them, until there are two or three. This is a big waste of time, also being able to take unlimited photos make us take photos carelessly, therefore reducing the worth of photos. How many times did you go back and checked all your past photos?
I was fed up with my cluttered gallery, and combined with my love about retro dipossable kodak film cameras we used to take pictures with, the idea of a disposable film camera app started forming.
I really liked the classical camera experience; you shoot, without actually seeing what will the result actually be when the photos are developed. And every film roll had limited number of shots, so we used every film carefully. These 2 points made the disposable film camera experience unique and exciting for me. Sometimes the shots were useless, but anyway, they were worthy.
I wanted to attempt to bring back some parts of the film experience to mobile phones. oneshotcam is the result of this attempt
The Solution
oneshotcam tries to bring back the exciting features of disposable vintage film cameras to our mobile phones.
I tried to combine digital photography with the old school retro film camera behavior, and developed oneshotcam camera application. It is a very minimalistic camera app where you have one “roll” each day, and a roll has 9 shots (or films), which means every day you can take a maximum of 9 photos.
There are also a few more nostalgic features such as ;
- 📷 daily roll: you get a new roll every day, each with 9 shots. in other words, every day you get 9 shots
- 📝 write a note: just like writing a note behind a photo, you can write notes on each photo. once written it can’t be removed or edited.
- 🔥 burn the photo: if you shot a photo but you don’t want to see it anymore, you can burn it. it will be forever gone. but, the slot of the shot will stay there, with a placeholder
- ✉️ send: this feature is a bit modernised *(see below to understand what I mean)*. you can send the photo to your friends or your social media
- 🎥 retro film camera presets: you can choose a film preset to get unique retro photo effects (e.g. Kodak Portra, Fujifilm, Ilford…)
And there are currently two ways to revisit your photo memories:
- 🏞️ day album: home page displays the day album, you can use the day selector to swipe back and forth between days
- 📆 shot calendar view: shows a calendar layout, with small preview of shots taken at given days, very similar to Instagram’s story archive screen or BeReal’s history screen
fewer shots, better memories!
