I’m with @craigcpaterson. Running on iOS 14 severely limits the use of an old device. The app could support video cameras without facial recognition for older devices that can’t run iOS 14. Nice job 👍🏼

@craigcpaterson @lucky_jeffman I agree about older devices. We have thought about this issue. We would think of ourselves as the choice for AI smart features in the market. There are a few apps with live streaming that can address the simple monitoring need.

Nice idea, but requires iOS 14. I have an old iPhone 4 that I would like to use as a security camera, but too old to run the software unfortunately.

@craigcpaterson Our app's core feature is AI event detection, which requires certain computing power to work. I bet it'll become more common in the near future.

Kudos for tackling this space and problem, you have an innovative approach! I've been involved in a few cloud and on-premises surveillance system. My understanding from your notes are the following unique differentiation: A. using the unused phones as the surveillance camera. B. make the systems more secure by using the camera for processing. some q's: 1. is there any storage of recorded videos? if yes where is that happening 2. the old phone will still be connected to the cloud even if the AI/motion detection is not going to the cloud (although as i know most camera systems do the processing on the device, but I might be outdated on that part and wrong). this connection to the cloud can still be exploited by hackers, does your system provide anything to reduce/eliminate this? this might be your early GTM with the goal of expanding your offering, which is smart. 3. Do you believe these differentiating factors open up enough early users? you're also entering a crowded market as you mentioned correctly some of which are part of the largest companies in tech. will you future product roadmap be able to keep the differentiation enough to compete with these established players after your initial launch? - an example of past experience, in a previous company we did not want to have customers store their recordings in the cloud, removing some security risks while reducing monthly fees (monthly storage fees is the business model for almost all current players in the consumer space to get you in with an inexpensive product and extend LTV selling disk space in the cloud with high margins) We used to work with cameras from Axis which were probably the first webcams offered in the US 20 years ago and they allowed storage on the camera and opened the software so we could actually custom code some features. Axis has since moved up market and is not offering the consumer camera with the same features, practically throwing in the towel to the other companies focusing on the consumer market.

@dvasefi Love your questions! Regarding differentiation, you are right. Plus our AI event detection parts. Computer vision is our core strength. Many cameras or camera apps still offer motion detection only. For your questions: >1. is there any storage of recorded videos? if yes where is that happening Recorded videos is stored locally on devices, or optionally on iCloud (We currently have iOS app only). We develop additional passcode for each card (Camera, History, Person, Device, etc) to protect data when device is running unattended. >3. Do you believe these differentiating factors open up enough early users? We are not sure yet to be honest. However competitive this market is, we find that it is not "Winner takes it all". So we'll figure it out. Interesting story. Sounds similar to what we would need to find out if we decide to make the next move. Again, I really appreciate your thoughts.

Cool! I have been using an old iPhone as a security camera for my home, but got increasingly frustrated by all the false detections that motion detection has, so finally someone has implemented an AI into this. Just checked out, it's nice that you put human detection as free feature.

@dtth1393 Exactly. Once you've experienced person detection, motion detection becomes intolerable. There are a large audience using phone as security camera. We think they definitely should be able to access AI detection features.

Hey all, My team is developing AiCam, a security camera app that has smart alerts like person detection, animal detection, face recognition and more, but never compromises your privacy. We’ve released recently, so I’d love to get your feedback. We started out doing computer vision, so we were keen on bringing the smartest features of security camera to mobile. Smart alerts mean that you received notifications in real time when a certain object or event is detected. And the event footage is automatically recorded. You won’t have to browse through hours and hours of footage to find an event by yourself. By ‘smartest features’, we mean far beyond motion detection, which causes a lot of false alarms. - AiCam sends alerts based on AI event detection, which differentiates human, pet, vehicle and everything else, and recognizes faces. - The app also enables powerful automation via integration with Siri Shortcuts, IFTTT and Zapier. Meanwhile, we realized that privacy is a big concern for security camera. Personal video footage is very sensitive data, yet as cameras become smart, the footage is always sent over a server for processing. It makes this data vulnerable to breach. If you wish for a home security camera with full control of privacy, it’s likely that you have to take the DIY approach. So we decide that we can take the privacy-first approach to our app. It means: - Video is processed completely offline. We don’t even have a server. - We don’t track any user data. - No profile required. No log in needed. No ads.
