Affinity.me

Discover like-minded people (using machine learning)

Affinity.me helps you discover like-minded people and the stuff (interests, music, photos, videos) they love. Using a combination of psychometrics and machine learning we calculate a unique "Affinity Score" between you and and everyone else on the platform. We then rank people by highest score and show how they're similar and different.

What do you think? …

Thanks for hunting us, @_jacksmith! I remember very clearly the moment when the seed for Affinity was planted. I'd just moved to a new city. It was 4 am on a Thursday morning in a basement nightclub called "The Bourbon Bar". I was mid-robotics dance battle with a guy in tear away track pants, and a popped collar polo. All of a sudden I thought, WTF. I hate dancing, and he looks like he's going to punch me in the face. There must be a better way to find like-minded people. Fast forward a few years, and I'm proud to say, now there is. @camslabosz and I (and the rest of the team) have combined our love of Psychology and Machine Learning to create the like-mindedness platform, Affinity. Our ultimate vision is that Affinity becomes a universal discovery platform. So not just limited to finding other like-minded people, but also being able to recommend almost anything based on how other like-minded people have behaved before. We'd love to get your feedback. BONUS: Want to get (helper) high and some free swag? Share Affinity with your friends on Twitter with the hashtag #helloaffinity and we'll ship Affinity t-shirts to our favourite shares.

@adithya - Thanks for the feedback Adithya. Date selector is sometimes tricky with free form depending on where you are from (switching month and day around). But we do need to make it so you don't need to force you to swipe 312 times!
Jay Stockwell
@adithya - You have an Affinity Score created between you and everyone else. You can't have one in isolation because it's a like-mindedness score between two people. Well, you can, but it would be perfect (approx 1000) and wouldn't tell you much. :)

Great design and execution, congratulations on the launch!

@mikestaub Thanks Michael! :)

I loved the quiz at the beginning. Would be cool to see matches earlier and then have unlimited amounts of questions & an incentive in the app to answer more.
Jay Stockwell
@brdick thanks for your feedback Bryan. Great to hear you are keen for more questions. We will be giving more resolution to your profile with more questions soon!

Pros:

Sounds like Tinder but with more metrics just than face value

Cons:

People rely on 1-on-1 meetings, how they found you in that meet-up group so on and so forth to decide if they want to be friends or not.

Cool idea, wanna see how it goes. But please remove the exact DOB and Nationality. Whats the point?
Jay Stockwell
@drakoumel - Thanks! :) We need DOB to ensure that you are over 13 years old. Nationality is useful for expats and gives key cues on social and cultural like-mindedness. For example, even though the US and Australia are so similar in so many ways, I know as an Australian meeting another Australian if I'm in the US, that there are key shared cultural knowledge and experiences that make it more likely that are useful in making a connection. We grew up watching the same TV shows, have the same slang, and probably have a lot of shared cultural rituals and customs. So it's useful in that way. Especially if you are homesick!
