I studied in Canada as an immigrant. Like me, many international students from non-native English-speaking countries such as China, Nepal, Taiwan, and Japan often struggled to express their thoughts and ideas clearly in English. While they had great ideas and strong potential, their inability to communicate effectively in English often held them back. With the recent advancements in AI, I saw an opportunity to help solve this problem. I decided to build a product that uses AI to assist students with their college admission essays, followed by a review from professional writers. How it works: The AI first learns about the student through their resume and an onboarding conversation. Using this context, it generates a personalized essay by combining the student's information with research about the chosen university and program. This ensures the essay aligns with the student's interests and goals. Once the student's ideas are clearly expressed in fluent English, the essay can be reviewed by a professional writer to finalize the process. Regarding ethical concerns: I’ve taken care to ensure that the AI does not fabricate any information. Everything in the essay is based entirely on the student’s own responses and is simply translated into a well-structured, grammatically correct format. How it is different from ChatGPT: Unlike ChatGPT, which often lacks enough context to generate a meaningful, personalized essay, this tool is designed to make the process easier for students by first collecting detailed information through their resume and an onboarding conversation. Without this context, AI tends to produce generic essays. Additionally, this tool uses successful past essays as one-shot examples and conducts in-depth research to align the student's background with the chosen university and program. Another key difference is that, within the same platform, students can directly send their draft to professional writers—individuals with years of experience in the industry—for expert review and refinement. At the end, if a student wants to create the same experience on Chatgbt, they could do it manually without any professional writers.
