Amazon has announced the general availability of Amazon Nova Premier, it's the new top-tier foundation model in their Nova family, joining Micro, Lite, and Pro.
It's designed for handling complex tasks that require deep understanding across text, image, and video inputs, supported by a large 1-million token context window. Think sophisticated agent workflows or in-depth data synthesis. Amazon benchmarks it competitively against other leading models in its class.
A really interesting capability is its role as a "teacher" model for Amazon Bedrock Model Distillation. Developers can leverage Premier's intelligence to generate high-quality training data for specific tasks, then use that to distill or fine-tune smaller, faster, and cheaper Nova models for production, while retaining much of Premier's expertise for that task.
