Sharing something potentially groundbreaking in the automotive world: Li Auto Halo OS. Chinese automaker Li Auto has announced plans to fully open-source their entire proprietary vehicle operating system!🤯
Their goal is to foster industry collaboration, help automakers and suppliers save on licensing fees, and accelerate the development of AI-powered vehicles by creating a shared ecosystem based on their tech.
Halo OS itself is designed as a modern, AI-ready foundation covering smart driving, vehicle control, secure communication, virtualization for efficiency, and support for various automotive chips.
The open-sourcing process will happen in phases, the first batch has been open-sourced on Gitee, under the permissive Apache 2.0 license.
This move by a major automaker to open-source such a critical component could have really interesting implications for the future of car software and AI integration.
