1Take

One-tap recording with LA-2A, 1176 & API 2500 sound modeling

I play piano. I record ideas on my phone. And I got tired of losing the first few seconds of every good take. OneTake fixes that—it's always listening. Hit record and it grabs what just happened, not just what comes next. I baked in processing that makes recordings warmer. Nothing crazy, just classic compression. Four presets, pick one and forget it. No account. No uploads. No ads. It just records and gets out of your way. Made for late-night practice and half-baked song ideas. Give it a shot.

Hey everyone, I'm the maker of OneTake. I built this because I kept losing the beginning of good piano takes. You know that feeling—you're noodling around, something clicks, and by the time you hit record it's already gone. OneTake runs a background buffer, so when you tap record, it saves what happened before you pressed the button. Simple idea, but it changed how I capture ideas. The app also applies subtle compression modeled after classic hardware (LA-2A, 1176, API 2500). I wanted recordings to sound polished without touching a DAW. It's been live on the App Store for a bit now, and an update with new features is currently in review. Would love to hear what you think—especially if you're a musician dealing with the same problem. Happy to answer any questions!

Hi Product Hunt! 👋

I’m Hakaru, a pianist and independent developer. I am so excited to finally share 1Take with you all! 🎹

As a musician, I record my piano rehearsals almost every day. But for a long time, I had a love-hate relationship with standard voice memos. While convenient, the sound often felt "thin" and "lifeless." I found myself wishing I could apply professional compression and EQ during the recording, rather than spending hours in a DAW later.

I built 1Take to solve this. My goal was to create an app that makes your recording sound "finished" the moment you hit stop.

Why 1Take is different:

  • Real-time Studio Effects: Apply Opto, FET, or VCA-style compression and a 4-band EQ directly as you record.

  • Pro-Grade Metering: Includes a classic VU meter with peak hold and a real-time spectrum analyzer—because seeing the sound is as important as hearing it.

  • Designed for Musicians: Features like Pre-roll (never miss the start!), background recording, and high-quality 48kHz WAV/BWF export.

  • Privacy First: No accounts, no ads, and no subscriptions. Your music stays on your device.

Whether you're a solo pianist, a band member, or a songwriter, I hope 1Take helps you capture your musical moments with the quality they deserve.

I’ll be here all day to answer your questions and listen to your feedback. I’d love to hear: what’s your biggest frustration when recording music on your phone?

Happy recording! 🚀
