We built DriftEdit: a full video editor that runs in your browser, on a computer or a phone. Your footage stays on your device, it's free with every feature, and you don't need an account. Today it leaves alpha: this is the first public beta.
The heart of it is auto mode. Give it a song and your clips, and it finds the beat, the kicks and the drop, picks your best shots, and cuts an edit that hits on every kick, in seconds.
Nine styles: Clean, Cinematic, Narrative, Smooth, Hype, Phonk, Velocity, Chaos and Reverse
Choose how hard it hits, how long it is (10 to 60 seconds) and the shape: vertical, square, 4:5 or widescreen
Hear the part of the song it will use before it cuts, pick which parts of your footage to use and leave any clip out, or switch to Only cuts for a clean edit with nothing on top
Don't like it? Another take cuts it again, Versions shows four takes side by side, and once you change a shot by hand, Remake around my changes redoes the rest around it
New in the beta, everything is yours to change:
Open any style in the style editor, change what it cuts on, its shots, transitions and hits, and keep it as your own
Build your own transitions, effects and overlays from the catalogue's pieces, or write them in GLSL with a live check on WebGPU and WebGL 2
Share any of them, and templates of whole edits, as a file
VFX drawn in 3D on any shot: fire, smoke, sparks, electric arcs, lightning, coloured powder, confetti, snow and rain, placed by dragging on the viewer
Everything it makes stays on a real timeline, so you can change any of it:
Trims, splits, keyframes with a graph editor, speed ramps, reverse, rewinds, boomerangs, stutters, freezes and echo trails
205 effects and 87 transitions you see live on your clip, plus colour wheels, curves and LUTs
3D scenes and text, your own 3D models, and eight templates to fill with your clips
106 text styles in 26 typefaces, 40 text animations and 53 caption styles
A Library of 49 sound effects, 8 beats and 31 overlays and stickers, free to use in anything you make
One-step editor's moves: Impact on the kick, Punch in, Freeze on the hit, Rewind onto the beat, a title that follows what moves, a clip that loops perfectly
Ten AI models work right on your device:
Split a song into vocals, drums, bass and the rest, to keep just the drums for the drop
Pull a voice apart from the music behind it
Smooth slow motion that moves on every frame, and exports at 60 fps
Captions from speech in 99 languages, every word timed, and an AI voice that reads them aloud in 13 languages
Photos that move in depth, a blurred background behind a person, B-roll matched to what is said, and a video's scenes found for you
For talking videos, it cleans up the voice, takes out the pauses, lowers the music under speech and makes the captions, all at once if you like.
When it's done, export up to 1080p at 60 fps, or the same edit in every shape at once for TikTok, Reels and YouTube. Pro (coming) adds 4K, 120 fps and Perfect quality, an AI pass that redraws every frame sharper.
It works best today in Chrome or Edge. There are lessons inside to get you started, it speaks 13 languages, and AI agents like Claude can drive it through MCP. Your feedback goes straight into what comes next.
We'd love to see what you make with it.
