Hi Product Hunt. We're the family behind HouseChief, and we built it for our own home in Dallas.
Both parents work, and for years our week lived in a shared Google calendar, a paper chore chart on the fridge, a notes app for groceries, and a group text for everything else. We tried the usual apps. Cozi filled the free tier with ads and only synced one direction. The wall-calendar devices wanted $150 to $699 for a screen, plus a yearly membership, when we already owned a tablet. So we built the thing we wanted.
HouseChief is one shared calendar that syncs two-way with Google, iCloud and Outlook, chores that earn stars the kids can spend in a rewards store, a weekly meal plan that turns into a grocery list sorted by aisle, and a Chief of Staff you can talk to in plain language. The part we care most about: the AI proposes, and a parent taps Approve. It does not move a lesson, send an email, or submit a form on its own. It never types passwords or card numbers.
A few other things we use daily: an old tablet on the kitchen wall shows today's schedule, chores, and dinner. School newsletters forwarded to our family address turn into Inbox items. Kids have profiles with no email or password, and a PIN keeps them out of parent views. Families who already pay for Claude or ChatGPT can connect it through an MCP connector.
It is free for 30 days, then $9.95/month or $99/year with base AI usage included, plus paid AI usage beyond that. No card is needed to start. That is more than Cozi (free with ads, or $39 to $79 a year for Gold or Max), and Google Calendar is free. What you pay for is two-way sync, no ads in the app, chores and rewards, and an AI that asks before it changes anything. Family data is never sold.
We're building this in public and would rather hear what is broken than what is nice. Which part of your week does your current setup drop? We'll be here all day.
