Hi Product Hunt! I made Unmush at Rubber Raccoon, where we build software for the hardest part of any photograph: the faces in it. I tested the popular upscalers, including the newest versions, and kept seeing the same thing: a sharp photo with the wrong faces in it. So Unmush doesn't replace your upscaler. It works on top of any of them and fixes just the faces. AI upscalers make a picture sharp by inventing detail. On a wall nobody notices. On a face that is forty pixels wide in a group photo, the invented detail is often a different person: younger, no glasses, somebody else's smile. We call that the mush. The picture looks great until someone who knows the people looks at it. Unmush does one narrow thing. You feed it the pair: your original photo and the upscaled file, from any upscaler. It finds every face, compares the two versions, and rebuilds the faces that were smeared or swapped from the real face in your original. Faces the upscaler got right are left alone and cost nothing. What it cannot do: promise a perfect likeness, or rebuild a face that is only a few pixels wide in the original. Every face can be rerun, and you can always keep the original face.
