My parents' TV played an ad before Netflix. One prompt for switched the junk off over Wi-Fi and put on a clean Apple TV style home. No root, nothing uninstalled, one line undoes it. 4 days: 13k stars, 147 TVs, 200 contributors, 73 articles.

Hi Product Hunt π I'm Gathin.
Last Saturday my parents' TV played a full-screen ad before they could even reach Netflix. I gave Claude Code the model number. It found the TV on our Wi-Fi, switched off 25 Xiaomi ad and tracking packages, and wrote them a simple home screen with just their apps. I tweeted the before and after and went to make tea.
Here is where it all started: https://x.com/gathint/status/2111379569030939102
Then the internet took over and in 4 days:
7.4M people saw the tweet, 13k starred the repo
200 strangers opened 505 pull requests, adding their own TVs: 147 models from 49 brands
The launcher is now available in 21 languages
TechCrunch, TechRadar, Tom's Guide and 70 more wrote about it, across 21 countries
110 people posted their cleaned TVs, and 28 built their own projects on top
What it is: one prompt you give your coding agent, it backs up your TV first, turns things off (never uninstalls), and puts on a small open-source launcher: 405 KB, no network permission, 21 languages. One line puts everything back.
Current limits: it's for Android TV and Google TV (and Fire TV lists). LG and Samsung run their own systems, so it won't work there. You need a computer and about 15 minutes.
I'd love to hear which TV you have and what's on its home screen that you'd remove first. If yours isn't on the list, the prompt works it out, and your list can be the next PR.
The fact that everyone can modify the android TV to suit their tastes, just like our phones excites me.
Great work, @gathint
