Muse Spark Open
Launching today
Muse Spark Open is Meta’s open-weight model, which Meta calls the most capable US open-weight model to date. It is natively multimodal, with 816B total parameters, 42B active, and a 1M-token context window, built for coding and agentic work. Meta says it runs on a desktop with two Apple M5 Ultra Mac Studios. Weights are on Hugging Face under the Muse Model License, which has limited commercial terms.

Muse Spark Open is Meta’s open-weight model from Meta Superintelligence Labs, announced October 15, 2026. Meta calls it “the most capable US open-weight model to date.” It’s natively multimodal and built for coding and agentic work.
Problem: Strong models for coding and long, multi-step agent work have mostly been closed, and running a large model yourself usually means a data center.
Solution: Meta released the weights. It’s an 816B-parameter model with 42B active at a time and a 1M-token context window. The weights are on Hugging Face and also available on Amazon SageMaker AI, Google Cloud Model Garden and Microsoft Foundry Models.
What makes it different: Meta says it’s the first model in its class to run on a desktop. That means two Apple M5 Ultra Mac Studios with Apple’s MLX framework, giving about a terabyte of unified memory between them. That’s expensive hardware, but it’s a setup you own. Meta tested agentic workflows on-device with its Muse Code tool, including iOS bug fixes and features for the open-source Ice Cubes Mastodon client, and video work in DaVinci Resolve.
Benchmarks:
MCP-Atlas: 89.2
OSWorld Verified: 80.4
Terminal-Bench 2.1: 76.4
GPQA Diamond: 89.0
HLE with tools: 61.0
Artificial Analysis Intelligence Index: 39
License: the weights are released under the Muse Model License, which Meta describes as having “limited commercial terms” that “allow many developers to use the model for free.” It’s not an OSI-style open source license, so read the terms before building a product on it.
Safety: Meta says it added safety post-training because the weights are open, and that the model met its release thresholds under its Superintelligence Scaling Framework. A full evaluation report is “available soon.”
Who it’s for: developers and teams who want a strong open-weight model for coding and agents that they can run themselves or through a hosted API.
