I love the idea, and it's really cool that you have a lifetime/pay-once option with no cloud dependency. It feels like the good old days — app purchases are back, which is possible again thanks to local AI models.
I have one question and one concern.
Question: Can I hook my Claude Code up to the meeting transcripts to do more powerful meeting summarization? How would it work in practice? Is it a folder where Epilode stores the transcripts, or does it work some other way?
Concern: The Pay Once option only includes one year (!) of app and model updates... does that mean I'll have to buy the app again every year? I mean, what if it stops working when the next macOS drops?

@matthew_gladyshev you absolutely can hook your Claude Code up to your meeting transcripts! The transcript and any summary Notetaker generates lives as an .md file on your computer, so you can point Claude Code to the folder with those .md files if you want to analyse/summarise them there. We don't support MCP yet, but we're working on adding support for that as well.
On Pay Once, we make sure that updates are backwards compatible, so you don't have to worry about the app stopping working. We've decided to go with a Pay Once model as we think there's no reason you should have to lock yourself into a subscription to use local models on your computer. At the same time, subscriptions and Pay Once licenses is how we fund continued development of the app (we're fully bootstrapped), so the one year of updates for the app feels like a fair and sustainable approach in our minds. So in short, you don't have to keep buying the app each year if you don't want continued updates we ship, it will continue working :)

Hey Product Hunt! The other maker of Epilude here 👋
Frustrated you have to send your voice over the wire for meeting note transcriptions? Worried you'll forget what was said if you don't?
Epilude transcribes and summarises your meetings on-device, on your Mac. No bot joins the call, so nobody sees an "AI Notetaker" sitting in the participant list. This has given me peace of mind when it comes to the horde of meetings each week - rather than messaging teammates and going over the same information, I can always fall back to the transcription or the locally processed AI meeting notes (yes, this all runs on your machine too).
Try our free trial, try it on your next call - and let us know if you have any feedback or thoughts!
Local meeting notes saved as Markdown are a lovely combination! How does the notetaker handle meetings where people switch between languages?
