I write code for a living, and every morning at standup, I freeze. I know I worked. I was there. I was tired by the end of it. But ask me what I actually did and I’ll either tell you the one big thing I’m proud of, or completely blank. For a while, my fix was waking up early and spending 30 minutes digging through my memory and Git commits before standup. It worked. It was also 30 minutes of trying to remember something I had literally just done. And I’d still miss things. Then agentic tools made it worse. I started shipping more in a day, so the gap got wider. I’d remember the one crazy feature that needed some ridiculous scoring engine for computing x, y and z, but forget the small delete button, the tiny patch, or the three fixes Claude made while I was away from my desk. Those are still my work. They still count. But by the next morning, I couldn’t remember them. At some point, I stopped trying to remember better and realized I didn’t need better memory. I needed a witness. So I built one. WriteLogs is a VS Code extension that quietly watches what I work on, including the work my AI agents do, and turns it into a clear summary of what actually happened during the day. Big changes.
