Hey Product Hunt 👋 I’m Lan, the maker of PI-Desktop. I built PI-Desktop because I love coding agents, but I never felt they had a workspace that was truly designed for them. Most agents still live in a terminal, an IDE extension, or a closed cloud product. I wanted something different: a desktop workspace where I could bring my own models, work directly with local projects, see what the agent is doing, and stay in control. That became PI-Desktop. It’s open source and local-first. There’s no required PI-Desktop account or subscription. You can use OpenAI, Anthropic, local models, or OpenAI-compatible providers. Some of the things I care most about: * Agent / Plan / Goal workflows * Reviewing file changes and commands before they happen * Skills, MCP, Subagents, and Plugins * Importing sessions from Claude Code, Codex, OpenCode, and Pi * Keeping your projects, conversations, settings, and credentials under your control I spent more than two months building and using PI-Desktop myself before releasing it publicly. I didn’t want to ship another AI demo that looks impressive for five minutes — I wanted something I’d actually keep open every day. The response since open-sourcing it has been far beyond what I expected, and the project has already crossed 1K GitHub stars. ❤️ PI-Desktop is still an Early Preview. There are bugs, rough edges, and a lot I still want to improve. That’s also why I’m launching it here.
