This started as a personal annoyance. We kept typing things like "iphone camera" or "85mm, f/1.4, soft window light, subtle grain" into a text box, and still getting images that looked generated rather than shot. Every few weeks a new model dropped that was supposedly the best one, so we'd end up pasting the same prompt into four tabs just to figure out which one to actually use.

Two problems, really:
1. Prompting isn't how photographers think. You don't describe a lens, you pick one.
2. There is no best model. There's only a best model for this particular shot.

So Editio gives you a camera instead of a text box: camera body, lens, aperture, grain, lighting. Real controls, applied consistently. Then one prompt fans out to GPT Image 2.0, Nano Banana Pro, Seedream 5.0 Pro and more in parallel, and lines the results up side by side. You keep the winner and drop the rest.

The approach shifted a lot along the way. We started out building around a single model, assuming we'd find the best one and be done. That turned out to be a treadmill, the ranking flipped almost monthly. So I reframed it: the app's job isn't to pick a model, it's to make picking one unnecessary. That's when side-by-side went from a nice extra to the whole point.

Everything else grew out of that: Similar mode for variations, Self mode to put yourself in a scene, 4K upscaling, and credit costs shown before you generate (failed runs get refunded).
