I built Wisp for myself, wanting to have a fast-on-device dictation app. So that I wasn't reliant on using ChatGPT Codex after it kept losing transcripts of mine and also is incredibly slow.
I didn't want to use any of the off-the-shelf Open Source apps or the paid apps that have a ton of features that are completely unrelated to just using your voice to dictate to the computer what you want to have written.
I wanted to avoid bloat. And I wanted to avoid bad experiences.
Wisp is entirely optimized for English.
It's fast and instant.
It runs on your Mac.
The app is native.
Everything is private.
And it's 100% free.
This was built on macOS Sequoia. And I spotted two UI bugs on macOS 27, which means they're also there on macOS 26. Those are being fixed in the upcoming 0.4 release.
