BodyPal is the AI calorie tracker that turns a photo of your meal into instant calories, macros, and personalized plans. Track food, water, and progress with a tap.
Hi Product Hunt! I'm Petar, one of the makers of BodyPal.
We built BodyPal after watching people (ourselves included) quit calorie tracking within two weeks. The reason was never motivation — it was friction. Searching a database for "grilled chicken thigh" three times a day gets old fast.
So we built the whole app around one number: seconds per meal. You photograph your plate, the AI recognises the dish and estimates the portion, you confirm the grams. Under ten seconds and you're done.
The part we're most proud of isn't the scanner though — it's what sits behind it. Most food databases are user-submitted, which is why the same food shows up with five different calorie counts. Ours is 3M+ foods with macros verified against national food-composition sources (USDA and the European equivalents). A fast scan on top of bad data is just fast nonsense.
A few other things in there: barcode scanning, custom recipes with automatic per-serving macros, meal planning, Apple Health and Health Connect sync, and full localisation in 18 languages.
We kept the free tier genuinely usable (manual logging, barcodes, and a number of AI scans), and Premium is $34.99/year — less than half of what the big names charge.
Happy to answer anything, and genuinely keen to hear where the scanner gets it wrong. That feedback is what makes it better.
