Prose is an AI co-author that lives beside your manuscript instead of in a browser tab. It doesn't start from a blank prompt — it works from the pages you've already written, so a new chapter or a continuation comes back in your pacing and your vocabulary, not the flat, over-polished register you get from pasting three paragraphs into a chat window.
Three decisions shaped it:
You see exactly what changed. Prose edits happen inside your manuscript, and every one arrives as a labeled diff — grammar, word choice, formatting — that you read and accept or reject on its own. No copy-paste, no guessing or using another app.
Your files stay yours. Plain Markdown on your Mac or iCloud — cancel me tomorrow and your book still opens anywhere. Prose pulls in only what a request needs: a paragraph for a line edit, the whole manuscript when you ask for a structural critique. The privacy page spells out where it goes.
Not locked to one model. Leave it on Auto, or pick per task from Anthropic, OpenAI, and Google — something fast and cheap for a line edit, the strongest one for a first draft.
Around that: skills for the ways writers actually get stuck (/beta-reader, /line-edit, /developmental-edit, /drafting-partner, and /create-skill to teach it your own), illustrations that read the scene before they draw, chapter notes, real typography, a Kindle e-ink preview, and ePub 3 / PDF export.

Heberti, the labeled diff is the decision I would defend hardest, and it is also the one that decays. I build a tool where a professional reviews AI drafted text before signing it, and the failure I watch for is review quality dropping as trust rises: early on people read every change, and a few weeks later they accept because it has been right so far.
The diff protects the first drafts and quietly stops protecting the later ones. What helps is treating each category separately instead of one accept rate. If someone rejects every formatting change and accepts every grammar fix, the formatting suggestions should get rarer rather than keep arriving to be dismissed.
Does Prose learn from rejections across a manuscript, or does each chapter start from the same suggestion mix?
